A Cautionary tale about going too far in competition., July 26, 2009
This review is from: McFig and McFly: A Tale of Jealousy, Revenge, and Death (with a Happy Ending) (Hardcover)
In Henrik Drescher's latest book, "McFig and McFly," it tells the tale of two next door neighbors, McFig and McFly who at first started out as good friends when McFly and his son Anton moved next door to McFig and his daughter Rosie and McFly decides to build his cottage exactly like McFig's cottage. Unfortunately, when McFly starts putting up a tower on top of his house, McFig gets extremely jealous of McFly and he starts building something better on his house. This competition between McFig and McFly proceeds to go on for many years to the point where McFig and McFly do not notice that their children, Rosie and Anton, are starting to fall in love with other. The ending of this book will be both shocking and heartwarming to the audience.
Henrik Drescher's story about the consequences about being too competitive with other people to the point where it becomes a obsession is beautifully told as the two men go at it for years while their children tried to convince them to cease this nonsense and pay attention to what is more important in their lives: their children growing up. Henrik Drescher's illustrations are surreal and childish at the same time as both McFig and McFig have oddly shaped heads and large eyes that cover most of their foreheads. This is definitely a cautionary tale about too much competition that children will enjoy for many years to come.

McFig & McFly, March 2, 2010
This review is from: McFig and McFly: A Tale of Jealousy, Revenge, and Death (with a Happy Ending) (Hardcover)
I absolutely love this book! It is one of the most entertaining and charmingly written children's books I have ever read. It teaches a great lesson of not wasting your life in trying to "keep up with the Joneses" and how love and family are the important things in life. The author has a very good sense of humour and this heartwarming book is very well written. Highly recommend!
