Should you choose to attend Miami University, you could very well spend the next four years of your life explaining to family and friends that “no,” there isn’t a beach where you go to school and “no,” you don’t frequently see palm trees and thong bikinis!
Founded in 1809 (before Florida was even a state), Miami University of Ohio is named after the Miami Indian tribe, who now live in Oklahoma, but once inhabited the area where the University was built—-the Miami River Valley of Ohio. Confused yet? Good.
If you’ve purchased this book, then you probably already know a thing or two about Miami of Ohio. You may or may not know about its academic reputation. Miami prides itself on focusing primarily on its young, fertile undergraduate students—one reason why the school is often referred to as “Mother Miami.” When students leave, they become part of the “Miami family,” a network of alumni, professors, and students all with one major connection—Oxford, Ohio.
