Excellent Book...My daughter did pass GED studying from it,

My children are all home educated. My oldest is now 22 and decided she wants to study graphic arts at the local technical school. She needed the GED to get in. So we bought this book and for 2 weeks studied together for about 2 hrs. a day in the math section, for Math was always my daughter's weak area. I felt the math chapters were very well laid out and each concept presented carefully and clearly. The work even stretched my brain at times, for I haven't done high level "school math" for many years. But with the practice, my brain was refreshed and I could do it, and my "math phobic" daughter could too. In some areas, she was quicker at finding the answers than I was! I never took geometry in school, nor did my daughter study it at home, and we never knew how to find the length of the hypotenuse of a triangle ( we didn't even know what a hypotenuse was!), but I found the geometry so well explained it was easy, and I actually found that chapter quite fun! We decided to skip the Algebra chapter, for my daughter never studied algebra, and she was totally confused from almost the very first. I had taken Algebra, and I did understand the concepts, and thought the presentation was fine. Anyway, my daughter took all the practice tests in the book and she did fine on them. We didn't "study" for anything else but the math, though she did read through most of the other subject sections herself. We were so pleased and relieved to get her GED scores in the mail yesterday and see that she passed! She scored in the 80's in math and science (her weak areas) and scored in the 90's in the others. Her essay score won't come back for 2 weeks, but even without that score she already has way more points than needed to pass. In sharing all this, I just wanted to say this book is indeed very good. I was glad for the math chapters being so well done. They give solution answers too, not just the answers. Yes, I did find a few misprints of wrong answers in the math section book. So you do have to be careful about that. Still, you can't go wrong getting this book. It is huge and intimidating, but if you take it one step at a time, and even if you use it only for your weak areas, it will be worth it. I really don't think we could have prepared successfully for the math section without it. Oh, and we can tell you you can pass the math section even when you do not know Algebra.

Excellent Study Guide,

I can't imagine anyone who really studys this book failing the NEW GED. The book, while overwhelming in size, is easy to follow and does an excellent job in all five subject areas. Of the five 2002 GED books I use in my classroom, this is clearly the best.

I tutor learning disabled adults for the GED. This book is by far the best. The language is simple and the instructions are great. They learn what they need to know to pass the GED with a decent score and are not overwhelmed with information that they do not need.

GREAT!,
This review is from: McGraw-HIll's GED : The Most Complete and Reliable Study Program for the GED Tests (Paperback)
Hi,
I bought this book about 3 weeks before the test. Ive been out of school for 4 years and my main weakness was mathemetic-I did very badly in this area in school. This book breaks EVERYTHING down to you in a way that makes it easy for you to pass the test with high scores. You dont even particularly need to know the actual subject well. The GED tests your ability to think and ability to discern what questions they are asking-thats it! With math, I took the practiced tests(which I got a lot wrong)-but once I went back and checked the answers-I understood what the questions were asking me to do(Oh-so I just needed to do the Pythagorean theorem..). I will say, that the tests in this book are about 25 percent harder than the real GED exam, so know that if you consistantly take the tests and go over what you got wrong-YOU WILL SCORE HIGH! No doubt about it. I took the test this month and already got back my scores 680-Mathematics 700 Writing 760 Reading 660 Social Studies 680 Science These are all scores in the high 90th percentiles for graduating high school seniors. The scores speak for themselves. I highly reccomend this book!

Great Book!,

This book was very helpful to me. I had been out of school for 12 years before I took the GED exams. I studied on my own, and passed with flying colors. My score is 3080, I've heard that some institutions consider that passing with honors. Anyway, what I loved about this book is the pre-tests.... You take the pre-test for each subject, and depending on the questions you got wrong the book tells you what pages to study. This was a great idea from the makers of this book. At the end of the book are all the post-tests, after you've studied what you got wrong on the pre-test (it goes through step by step to teach you the things you don't know), you proceed to the post tests. This is a GREAT book!!!! I would recommend it for anyone taking the GED exams.

This book is great! I haven't gotten too far into it yet, but what i did get through, i am very pleased with. I'm very glad i bought it because the GED test has changed quite a bit over the last 12 years, so i'm going to need to study. It has pretests in the beginning from every subject that is recommended to take before you go any further in the book. After you take the pretest, you then check your answers w/ their answer key at the end of that pretest. If you got any wrong then there is another chart where you mark which questions you got wrong. It will then tell you which page you need to go to to study those weak points. There is more, but i haven't gotten that far to tell about.

McGraw-Hill's GED: Most Complete and Reliable Study.....,
This review is from: McGraw-HIll's GED : The Most Complete and Reliable Study Program for the GED Tests (Paperback)
I purchased the book for my grandson who needs to get his GED and didn't know where to start. I have since heard from him and he has already take 3 of the tests and passed them. He is hoping to do the other 2 soon. In his note to me, he sounded very appreciative for my senting him this book and helping him. He has had trouble in highschool since his older brother was killed in a car crash and needs encouragement to 'get on with his life'.

A great help for a low price! Two of my family members used this book (don't worry, each got their own copy - they're starting college this fall!) to brush up before taking and PASSING their GED tests. Mission accomplished! The format is easy to follow and the information is just what you need. It emphasizes finding your weaknesses so you can strengthen them. I recommend it for homeschoolers needing a great way to prove they have a high school education and anyone needing to finish their high school education.
