Wouldn't touch it with a 10-ft pole.,
By Michael B "Idahocameraeye" (Boise, ID United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The McGraw-Hill Civil Engineering PE Exam Guide: Breadth and Depth (Hardcover)
FYI, don't bother with this book - it doesn't come close to the competence of CERM7, is about 30% bigger than it needs to be because of the 14-pt type, many of the graphics are illegible, one of the CD's is only a duplicate of the text in the book (the other is a timed version of a good reference, but you can't print it, so it's not worth much), and the "depth" of the book is pretty thirsty at best. If you can pass the exam w/ this book as it advertises, then you don't need to study because you already know it all. Save you money - McGraw Hill is cutting and pasting it's way into your wallet if you buy this book.

Don' Buy IT,

The book is full of errors. It is hard to follow, even harder to reference to during the Exam. There is nearly not enough information to got a decent overview of some of the more difficult material. It was a complete waste of money for me.I recommend the Lindeburg book.

i forget what website i bought this from, but if i had read the other reviews i would not have bought it!! i wish i didn't. the only thing this is good for at the exam is if you are too short and need to sit on it as a booster seat.don't bother wasting your money!

Errors galore!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The McGraw-Hill Civil Engineering PE Exam Guide: Breadth and Depth (Hardcover)
I have only been through half of the text portion of the book and am extremely disappointed and appalled at the number of errors found in the sample problems. Whether the errors are typos or computational, I don't think anyone can or should trust that what they try to review. Do not waste your money in buying this book.

I just bought it. I opened up on page 101 to find the Dr(%) formula (5.10) being wrong. This does not give me a warm feeling. I probably will be further disappointed with this book. I'll tell you more about it later.

Disappointed,

My hope was to find a book with example problems that reflect the new PE exam format. This book has no end of chapter problems at all. And from what I read there was no difference in the depth and breadth sections. I did a side-by-side comparison of the environmental stuff and it was word for word. As far as I can tell the only thing the depth section (which is on CD) gives you is a bunch of charts you'll never use.

I only made it thru the first section of the geotechnical chapter and realized that I had to return this book. Formula errors and many errors in the solutions to sample problems. Find another review book and stay away from this one.

Civil Engineering PE Exam Guide - Breadth and Depth,
By Civil engineer (Wisconsin) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The McGraw-Hill Civil Engineering PE Exam Guide: Breadth and Depth (Hardcover)
Paid over $90 for this book at Borders and was extremely dissapointed. The CD is an exact replica of what is in the book - Many equation errors and typos, no "practice test" questions as stated on the cover. The editors of this book are certianly not PEs and could never pass the test with this!

This book was just okay. There are other better suited study guides for taking the PE.

Very good book for the new PE format. The Transportation section need more work in the area of Higway Capacity Manual; capacity, level-of-service, freeways, rural, and suburban highways must be treated in more details with worked examples.
