The best of its type!,
By Manx Lover (Los Angeles, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms (Hardcover)
I have been a technical writer/editor for more than 20 years, and have yet to find a more comprehensive dictionary of this type. For the engineer or the technical writer or editor, this publication is really the best. One might consider it to be too general, but with almost 2,200 pages, 105,000 terms, 122,000 definitions, and 15 appendices ranging from the Periodic Table of the Elements to schematic electronic symbols to the classification of living organisms, it is useful in many scientific fields. In addition, it is visually appealing and easy to read, with liberal inclusion of illustrations in the outside margins of almost every page. You won't be sorry you bought it, and you might even be able to eliminate several other scientific dictionaries occupying precious room on your shelves (this edition is approximately three inches thick).

I bought this book because it was on sale! What a deal. It never occur to my mind that this book will become the first one I need when I encounter some difficulty understanding technical or scientific materials. Almost any definition related to science and technology in this book. This excellent reference must have for any one working in the field of science or engineering. It is very helpful especially when you have to study new subjects in yours field of knowledge required by your job or for general studying. This book has the keys to unlock your mind for knowledge and understanding. I would pay full price for this book if I knew how useful and great is as I do now.

This book is a must for technical libraries. It's also a great asset to scientists and engineers who must sometimes cross outside their particular fields of expertise to get the job done

I owned a previous edition of this dictionary. As an engineer myself, I consider it an esential tool for everyday work for engineers and scientists. In addition, the CD-Rom has a MS Word dictionary that you can use while correcting a document. Great reference tool!
