1.0 out of 5 stars This book is junk, July 26, 2008

My first review as well. I reviewed the whole book (chump that I am). Sure there are a lot of errors in the practice problems and the verbal test questions didn't make much sense, but I thought the tips were okay.

Then I reviewed a couple of other books like The Princeton Review and they blew this thing away. A total waste of time. I was hoping at least the practice tests would be helpful, but after researching more, practicing on poorly written questions is more hindrance than help.

It supposedly prepares you for the difficult questions, but sends you only with a loin cloth into battle. This is a shoddy attempt at GMAT prep.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible book!, July 17, 2007
By
This review is from: McGraw-Hill's GMAT, 2008 Edition (Paperback)
I have never bothered to write a review before, but this book is so bad that I have to stop others from purchasing it. I have gone through most of the math section and have found many errors in their practice problems and solutions. Didn't anyone bother to edit this book? I have a Chemical Engineering degree and used to tutor Calculus. The book was purchased just as a brush up for the GMAT. Save your money and try another review book!

I too have never written a review but after using this book for 2 hours I realized it is worthless. Do not buy this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Terrible Book, May 26, 2008
By
This review is from: McGraw-Hill's GMAT, 2008 Edition (Paperback)
I wish I could give this book a rating of less than 1 star. I purchased the book mostly for the practice tests, but there is no guidance on scoring the tests, and there are a number of errors in the answer keys. This is particularly frustrating, and surprising since this book is supposed to be helping me, not the other way around.

1.0 out of 5 stars error prone., November 4, 2007
By
EW (Arlington, VA) - See all my reviews
this book has a noticable number of errors in its print and also with the software. the software crashes at the end of a section when you take the timed test. it also does not properly align responses with the essay part of the test (meaning, the questions don't always match the answers that you wrote - which makes me skeptical about the underlying logic in the application code).
the tests on the CD also show repeated questions within the same test. i find that to skew your results.

the point is, stay away from this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware of CD, August 29, 2009
By

I didn't intend to use this book as my primary means of study for the GMAT but I saw it at a used bookstore for $3 with the CD-ROM and decided it would be worth it just for the extra practice tests. The system requirements are Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP, and when I tried to load it on my computer that currently runs Windows 7 it said that my system was not compatible (it said I was running NT, which I guess is also incompatible). Now, I have downloaded and installed many programs that don't list 7 or even Vista and they run fine, and since Windows 7 and Vista are both backwards compatible I have never had any problems until now. So beware if you have a newer operating system, or especially a Mac: the Computer Adaptive Tests will not work for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Are you kidding me?!?, October 10, 2008
This guide could seriously ruin your GMAT score. I am only a quarter of the way through and I have found four GLARING errors in their practice questions. For example, on page 91, it asks for the reader to find the equation of a downward sloping line. The answer they give however, states that the slope is a positive number (it should be negative). This is a VERY BASIC error that should not make it into any published book, let alone one that students use to improve their understanding of math and their GMAT test scores. Avoid this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Complete Waste, March 31, 2008
By
I will second the concerns of the other postings. This guide is a complete waste. I have just finished my third practice test only to have it crash (for the third time) at the end of section and lose my answers. The review in this book is poor and the practice tests mediocre. That's if you can get them to work!

1.0 out of 5 stars This book stinks, March 16, 2008
I bought this book mainly because it came with a CD with 6 GMAT computer-adaptive tests on it. As the other reviewers stated, the software is full of errors. I have taken two of the tests, and I have already multiple errors in the solutions to the problems. The software also crashed at the end of each section every time I took a test, as at least one other reviewer stated.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Bad Study Guide, February 11, 2008
By
Eponine (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
There are errors all over this book with no corrections page or website. Some of the errors are grammar mistakes, but most are in the solutions to problems. So far I have found around 12 major errors. I have not tried the practice tests on the CD as it is not Mac compatible. I would not recommend this book to anyone.
