Horrible Study Guide,
By Sarah Smith "Sarah" (Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: McGraw-Hill's GMAT, 2010 Edition (Mcgraw Hill's Gmat (Book Only)) (Kindle Edition)
I am sure that if I had continued to use this study guide I would have done pretty poorly on the GMAT. First of all, the book gives the impression that the GMAT is pretty easy, which it isn't. Second, I found a pretty bad algebra error (not just a typo) and emailed McGraw-Hill about it but didn't get much of a response. Luckily Borders allowed me to exchange the book and I purchased the Kaplan GMAT book instead. Much better! DO NO PURCHASE THIS BOOK!!!

Avoid this AWFUL book and CD!,

This review is from: McGraw-Hill's GMAT with CD-ROM, 2010 Edition (Paperback)
I'm not usually one to complain, but this book and the CD that came with it were absolutely terrible. The book itself was okay in some ways, good layout etc., despite some errors like those beneath said. But add to that the fact that it gives you NO INDICATION of how you are going to do on the GMAT whatsoever- it doesn't even take a stab at giving you any scores. Or tell you the difficulty ratings, or anything useful. I really regret not looking ahead of time to see which books were the best; I chose this one for the CD-rom, maybe naively expecting it to give you an authentic experience and an expected score, both of which it entirely failed to do.
They don't even mention that the answer choices have no letter on the test, so they train you to go by A, B, C, D, E... and it's totally different. There were also several mistakes in the scoring. The CD had marked several correct answers wrong, with the explanation saying the one they'd marked wrong was right, it was almost insulting. It was a trainwreck... Avoid this book at all costs! I won't bore you with the specifics of how terrible this book was. Just don't buy it... And to add insult to injury, when I wrote to them complaining about it, they didn't even attempt a decent apology. Boo. You ought to be ashamed McGraw Hill.

Please read this before you make the same mistake I did!,
By Derek (Bellingham, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: McGraw-Hill's GMAT, 2010 Edition (Mcgraw Hill's Gmat (Book Only)) (Paperback)
I made the unfortunate mistake of buying this before reading reviews. After taking two of the practice tests I was feeling a little bit too good about this test. But something didn't seem right as 3 or 4 of the questions on the math section were just plain wrong. Typos in 1/3 when you mean 1/5 and then telling you you answered incorrectly is very frustrating. I started looking into the reviews by other people from previous years editions and the one review before me and realized that this was a trend.
It is laid out very well, and can be a fairly quick study guide, but I wouldn't call it comprehensive, good, or as they say aimed for the upper portion of students aiming at getting the highest scores. This really started scaring me. I talked to a friend who took the test two years ago and he said that there is no way this should seam easy. He is giving me his Kaplan 08 complete study book. I am going to go through that in the 12 days I have left to study. I will comment after I take the test and be frank with my score and which one was closer at simulating the test. |
