A Book Publisher's Proofreading Rules,
This review is from: McGraw-Hill's Proofreading Handbook (Paperback)
McGraw-Hill uses the information in this book as a resource for their proofreader-employees and contractors. The information is easy-to-read and understand and is organized for ease-of-reference. This small textbook should be in the library of the professional proofreader or the serious writer.

I am a technical writer and editor. Sometimes I forget all of the symbols associated with proofreading and copyediting. This book is helpful at keeping them straight.

It was an ok review book on proofreading. I thought it would be much more descriptive and some information on proofreading for Administrative areas than so much for copywriters.

I have found this book to be very helpful as I start up my business, "Tilden Editing Services." There was a lot of printing/ publishing history; that is, words we use which just don't mean what they did years ago. (Like "print," "galley," and many others.
Once I got past the history, I found a lot of very helpful material. Some I knew, some I'd forgotten, and some I really wasn't aware of. This is the kind of book one needs to wake up the knowledge stored up inside you, that's just waiting for you to take hold of it. Yes, I recommend "McGraw-Hill's Proofreading Handbook" to anyone in the publishing or editing business. |
