More About the Author

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in an Armenian origin family, Claudia Adjemian
de Kechkian was often exposed to the difficulties to communicate in a foreign
language her grandmothers used to have, and she can still remember their words and gestures while communicating with their physicians.

Professor Kechkian is a native speaker of Spanish and has a degree as Professor of English from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina Santa Maria de los Buenos Aires. She has taught English Grammar at this same university and at the Universidad del Salvador, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She has been teaching English and Spanish as a Second and Foreign Language at schools, language schools and universities for more than twenty years,
in Argentina and the US. Throughout all these years, she has been "humbly proud" to say that "I have had the rewarding experience to see through my students that learning a language can be serious, effective, and fun, all together at the same time".

As a Medical Spanish Instructor at the Physician Assistant Program, Barry University, School of Graduate Medical Sciences, Miami Shores, while living in Florida, she evidenced that teaching Spanish in a medical setting provided an essential tool to break down basic communicational barriers in health care.

She has created the Kechkian Language in Action™ Approach, that organizes the teaching-learning process of the language in six steps that guide the work gradually from language exposure and practice, to language production. This approach helps in the integration of the four language skills -- listening, speaking, reading and writing --, prioritizes communication above all things, and presents plenty of role-playing activities that lead to the acquisition of the language in a very effective way.

Professor Kechkian has recently founded CK MEDICAL SPANISH, a company based in Fairfax, Virginia, with the mission to teach Spanish to Health Care Professionals whose first or second language is English, and help them break down language and cultural barriers with their Spanish-Speaking Patients". 2.0 out of 5 stars no audio CD, February 28, 2008
This review is from: McGraw-Hill's Quick and Easy Medical Spanish w/Audio CD (Paperback)
I selected this product because it was supposed to come with an audio CD. However when I received it from Amazon there was no CD included. When I contacted Amazon, they apologized and said it was no longer available from the distributer (so I'm suprised to still see it advertised with the CD on this site). I ended up ordering it direct from McGraw-Hill (with the CD). This is my first disappointing experience with AMazon, but I'd recommend you save yourself the hassle (and extra shipping) and order it direct from McGraw-Hill.
As for the product itself, it would help to have a pretty good background in Spanish grammar before starting, since it is a bit strangely organized. Overall, it's a good start to learning medical Spanish.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not want I expected, January 13, 2008
This review is from: McGraw-Hill's Quick and Easy Medical Spanish w/Audio CD (Paperback)
I was looking for a book with phrases and commonly used medical terms, that also included a CD. I flipped through this book after I received it and appeared more like a high school workbook. There were translation exercises. I'm an ER nurse and writing spanish is not what I really need. Consider carefully what you need before purchasing. I am returning it and buying "On Target: Spanish for Healthcare Providers". Hopefully this one will be better.

4.0 out of 5 stars review, April 18, 2008

This review is from: McGraw-Hill's Quick and Easy Medical Spanish w/Audio CD (Paperback)
Well, mine came with a CD and a book. The book starts with the basics and can be used both by those who have no or little background in spanish and also those who want to improve their spanish by increasing their health care related vocabulary. The CD is packed with fast paced dialogue where the narrator hardly takes a breath. I actually liked the "high-school" format where you fill in the blanks since it helps to better memorize the new words etc. Do not have a comparison but I felt the package met my expectations.
