I have purchased this only 3 months ago and used it at least twice monthly and I am vey happy with it. I love the golf course green type finish I get and so enjoyed it I was tempted to offer to mow some of the other neighbourhood lawns. There's no doubt the machine is well made. The difficulty I have had with it is there's no throttle control. You have to work around that. If you have a huge lawn then this probably wouldn't be a problem, but my yard isn't huge. The machine works me to death. I had Zoysia grass laid and pictured a well manicured lawn. Not exactly a home run. Perhaps next spring it...

I purchased my McLane Reel mower several years ago at an estate sale. It had been used on a huge lawn of turf grass.
(bermuda).

The yard had the appearance of a golf course. While the machine was a little rusty...the briggs magnetron 3hp engine started on the third pull. The mower is the envy of the neighborhood, as it's self propelled wheels push through my St. Augustine grass with precision and ease.

The front mounted grass catcher (( an option worth purchasing )) seems bulky and in the way, but is not.

This is a professional machine in every sense of the word.

I highly recommend the McLane Mower to any pro; or home owner who is serious about the appearance of their lawn.

Perhaps next spring it might be better. The difficulty is the height of the blades. I wish there was a way to raise it up higher than the allowable settings, but that's not easy to do. Also, the front grass catcher only picks up small amount of grass before the grass backs up into the reel. Sometimes I could go only 15 to 20 feet and it clogged up the reel. The idea of the grass being thrown forward, thus recutting it, is a great idea, but it leaves a good amount of cuttings on the grass and when it dries it is unsightly. I have to go over the lawn with my Honda rotary mower to clean up the cuttings. Right now, this is not working out as I anticipated, but, again, perhaps after the sod settles by next spring it may work out. My first cutting was 6 weeks after it was laid.

This is my second McLane mower in 35years. The Honda is a gas hog compared to B/S.engines. There has been several small changes but still a grate mower for the lower cut grasses. Gives a greens cut getting me a lot of comments on the lawn.
It seems as the Honda was added as an after thought so it would meet CARB specs.
Overall it is a GREAT mower. It will outlast me I'm sure.
