Finally McLeod's Available in the States,
By
This review is from: McLeod's Daughters - The Complete First Season (DVD)
McLeod's Daughters is an Australian soap opera that has played on WE (Women's Entertainment) TV for the last couple of years up until a few months ago when they decided to discontinue showing it. It is now at the end of its 6th season in Australia and WE had played seasons 1-3. Of course, being a soap opera, it is addictive, and not being able to watch the rest of the seasons is killing a lot of the fans who don't have region free DVD players (or $80 to fork over per season).
The plot at the beginning of the first season is basically two half-sisters (Claire and Tess) who have lived apart for most of their lives (same father, different mothers) come together to save Claire's ranch after their father dies. Claire has lived on the ranch all her life and Tess has lived in the big city with her mother most of her life. Tess, being from the big city, is not too keen on living on a ranch, but she helps her sister, and ends up staying at the ranch to help run it. Along with the sisters there are other characters who liven up the place, as only soap opera characters can do. There's the two brothers, Alex and Nick, who help run their nearby ranch and who become love interests for just about any girl who is on the show. There's Meg, and her wild daughter Jodi, who help at the ranch. Another ranch help, Becky, who has a troubled past, but is a hard worker. And Terry, a ranch hand at Alex and Nick's ranch, who has an on-again, off-again, relationship with Meg. There are other regulars who have come and gone over the course of the six seasons, but those are most of the main ones from season 1. The actors in this series are very good, and as we all know, many famous, well-renowned actors have started on soap operas. If they have been in anything else in the U.S. I don't know about it, but as far as I can tell from IMdB, most of them have been in a lot of Australian productions. Recently, John Jarrett, who plays Terry, was in the movie Wolf Creek. His portrayal in that movie was totally different than his role on McLeod's Daughters. It shows he has quite an acting range. It is nice to finally have this fine and addictive series available in our region for a reasonable price.

I can't believe it...McLeod's FINALLY comes to the U.S.!!!!,
This review is from: McLeod's Daughters - The Complete First Season (DVD)
It only took 6 years for distributors to finally wake up and see what an excellent show this is, and not just for the Australian audience. American producers usually portray female farmers/ranchers as either man-hating butches or tobacco-spitting rednecks. MD shows that a female farmer/rancher can be independent, sexy, beautiful, strong, and intelligent. This show is so down-to-earth, the actors do such an excellent job bringing their characters to life. Seasons 1-4 are the best (in my opinion), hopefully they will all be brought to the U.S.!!! I wish they had put a little more into the "Behind the Scenes" bit in the Special Features. I'm assuming that this is going to go down as one of the greatest TV series ever (at least I think it should!!!), and there is so little info about it, and what's behind it. I wish they had put a lot of behind the scenes stuff on every disc!! Posie Graeme Evans and Caroline Stanton are geniuises!

IT IS RARE FOR ME TO WATCH A SHOW FROM THE VERY FIRST EPISODE AND BE HOOKED, BUT THIS SHOW DID IT! WE CHANNEL RAN THE SERIES THROUGH IT'S THIRD SEASON, BUT THEN ABRUPTLY YANKED IT, I GUESS TO MAKE ROOM FOR ALL THOSE HIGHLY ENTERTAINING (KIDDING) BRIDES ON STEROIDS! CANNOT BELIEVE FROM ALL I HAVE READ THAT IT HAS TAKEN THIS LONG FOR MCLEOD'S DAUGHTERS ON DVD TO HIT THE US, BUT I AM SO GLAD IT IS FINALLY HAPPENING! IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BECOME ADDICTED TO A TV SHOW, THEN DON'T BUY THIS SET. BUT IF YOU WANT TO SEE A REALLY ORIGINAL AND ENTERTAINING SHOW, GET THIS SET FAST! MY ONLY FEAR IS THAT I'LL BUY THIS SEASON AND THE DISTRIBUTORS WON'T MAKE THE REST OF THE SEASONS AVAILABLE--THEN I WON'T EVER FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS!

If you want to see how women can handle a ranch in the Austrailian West, this program will be one you won't want to miss. The characters are strong, focused on succeeding in running the property, and are learning how to take one day at a time. Conflicts are eventually worked out as all of them learn how to operate in a different kind of terrain. Tess, the sister who left when she was 5 with her mother, is urbanized, educated and not sure how to fit in. Clare, the sister who stayed, is tough, determined yet willing to negotiate if it means she can keep the place. The sisters learn how to work together while working with the three other women on the ranch: a mother (Meg) and daughter (Jody) and friend from the nearest city who came to the Ranch to start a new life.

This is the best show I have watched in years, I got my whole family hooked including my Dad and my son. It truly is addicting. We never missed an episode on WE and as with the others since they dropped the show I won't watch their network either. There is something for everyone in this series. Please bring the rest of the seasons to the US. We are waiting!!!!!

I love this series. It is heartfelt. Nothing on American TV is this catching. Its about two sister who were seperated young and reunite with each other after their father dies. The two sisters are very different and the series follows their growing love for each other and the land that ties them together. Of course there are more characters and some good looking Men. This series makes me long to vist Australia. The landscape is beautiful and the actors do a great job making the characters seem like you know them and feel their emotions. Love it! Only wish a station would pick up the series agian. I will buy the next season as soon as it comes out.

I love the fact that I can watch McCleods anytime I want now and theres no commercials! I also like haveing the commentaries and the movie at the end. I got hooked on the show when it was playing on Womens Entertainment and was very upset when they stopped showing it. I can hardly wait until they come out with the other seasons.

I have been waiting for Months for Mcleod's Daughters to come out on DVD. I watched the whole season in one weekend and now can't wait until they release the other seasons. I like everyone else was heartbroken when WE cancelled this show. To this day I still refuse to watch the Network.
