5.0 out of 5 stars We have a winner!
I have used Exam Notes books for Nt Workstation, TCP/IP, and today I just took IIS 4 (70/087) and passed with a score of 818 (727 is the minimum passing score).

This book is fantastic and it covers in 280 pages what most books do in 600+ pages of fluff. The advantage is you don't get lost in the influx of information. I read this book from front to back and...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a very helpful book to pass test or understand IIS
I've been using Exam Cram/Transcender to get through the first five exams for my MCSE (TCPIP was other elective). I felt that they were the best and fastest way to get MCSE'd. When I started looking into materials for IIS, this book was recommended over Exam Cram. I found it very difficult to get through and not very useful during the test or for understanding IIS in...

This review is from: McSe Exam Notes: Internet Information Server 4 (Mass Market Paperback)

I read this book from front to back and hi-lited along the way. Then, I spent the $69.00 for the PC AGE test (This is the only test Transcender is lousy with) and it was right on the money too! After I completed the PC AGE test I printed out ALL the answers and looked up the wrong ones in the Exam Notes book. Many of the questions on the PC AGE test appeared on the real 70-087 test, I don't know how they get away with it.

In my opinion, you can either spend $600 on the IIS 4 class, $200 on the official MS Curiculum (which sucks), or spend $85 and have the Exam Notes book + the PC AGE test and you WILL PASS!

Good Luck!

I've been using Exam Cram/Transcender to get through the first five exams for my MCSE (TCPIP was other elective). I felt that they were the best and fastest way to get MCSE'd. When I started looking into materials for IIS, this book was recommended over Exam Cram. I found it very difficult to get through and not very useful during the test or for understanding IIS in a meaningful way. I think I got used to EC's straight forward, direct style and couldn't go back to this checklist, "light" style. I don't know if the EC book was really that bad or if Corlois has improved it so scan it at the nearest bookstore. Otherwise, if it weren't for brain dumps and cramsession, I'd still wouldn't have my MCSE!

4.0 out of 5 stars This book covers almost everythink you need to know., October 6, 1999
By A Customer
This book covers about 85% of the information you will need to know to pass the exam. If you memorize everyting in this book, you will probably get an 850/1000 max on your test. The test questions at the end of the book are pretty good. They aren't the ones you will see on the test, but they cover the same material. For best results, use an additional source. With good study habits and the right resources, IIS can be conquered in 2 weeks. I did it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Solid Review, July 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: McSe Exam Notes: Internet Information Server 4 (Mass Market Paperback)
I found this book to be a good review for the exam. It covers over 90% of the covered exam topics, and well.

I only found a few areas where this book lacks, such as there is almost no coverage of ODBC errors. It is also weak on analyzing contents of scripts and ODBC format files such as HTX, IDC, and IDQ's. Some exam questions may ask about, for example, the contents of HTX files, and if so this book doesn't help much in that area. But I can easily forgive this because this is really a topic for a full length study guide, the contents of scripts are a bit deep for an exam review book.

4 stars. A good solid review, a good way to revive knowledge already burried from the full length study guides.

4.0 out of 5 stars Toss all other books aside!, June 7, 1999
This review is from: McSe Exam Notes: Internet Information Server 4 (Mass Market Paperback)
If your looking to pass the IIS 4.0 Administration test, this is the book to use. I used this book in additon to using the product hands on for about 3 weeks and passed the test first shot with a high score. The book covers all the necessary concepts however the hands on experience is essential since this exams uses the Microsoft Management Console Simulator. I don't recommend using the Exam Cram series for this exam. It does not cover the material with enough detail.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you practice the sample test you definitely pass the exam, March 21, 1999
By A Customer
I passed the IIS exam by studying in several books and I suggest you practice because you have 8-10 simulation questions in that test, I found this book very helpful in succeeding in the exam specially for the ODBC Error questions that you will be asked about in 3 or 4 questions, If you practice the sample test included in this book you definitely pass the exam. thank you Lisa Donald

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, Easy to Read, and pass!, December 22, 1999
By
This review is from: McSe Exam Notes: Internet Information Server 4 (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the only book I used to study for 70-087. Hands on is a MUST due to the simulation questions on the Exam. I had 9 Simulator Questions... Only thing you need in addition to this book is the white papers or MS TechNet to read about Index Server. Index Server is a BIG part of the exam, so Read up! Great Book. Recommended A++++

1.0 out of 5 stars Microsoft Transaction Server is important, February 9, 2000
By
This review is from: McSe Exam Notes: Internet Information Server 4 (Mass Market Paperback)
I bought this book to help me try and catch up on some IIS fundamentals. I was willing to work with the book until I saw the tip about not worrying about Microsoft Transaction Server. The author is under the impression that understanding it is something only developers should know, but as someone who has to troubleshoot web page problems, this was very frustrating to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars An instructors dream, February 3, 2000
By A Customer
I teach at a certified solution provider and it has been very difficult to find a good IIS4 Microsoft approved study guide. This book really focuses on the material necessary to pass the test and learn administration. This approved study guide does not include all the "fluff" you will never need. I do not recommend this book for people interested in writing code
