Venona Files Critic, January 17, 2006
This review is from: Mccarthy: Death of a Witch Hunter [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Naming names in the Verona Files isn't exactly a credible indictment of thosed named, because the Soviets never used the actual names of real spies in their communications. When they were talking about their real agents, the Soviets always used code names.
Whenever they used a person's real name, it was in some context that had nothing to do with spying (or perhaps as a target of their real spies), or they expected the communication to be intercepted, and were passing on disinformation. The Verona files don't really "prove" anything and the information is only useful to the trained intelligence communty. Unfortunately, they've been misused quite frequently by McCarthy apologists and other propagandists to sucker the gullible.

Anything but the Truth, April 21, 2005
This review is from: Mccarthy: Death of a Witch Hunter [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Thie "documentary" starts out with the commentator stating about McCarthy that "He never found one communist anywhere." This was false in 1986 based upon the evidence available in 1954, and it was proven beyond a shadow of a doubt by the release of the "Venona" intercepts in 1995 of US code-breaking intercepts of Soviet spy communications from 1942 through the 1970's that everyone McCarthy charged was indeed a Communist, and most were taking their orders directly from Moscow.
Given that, this short film is biased propaganda that pretends to show McCarthy in the worst light possible. Actually, if you know the history of the times and that the US did know there were a hundreds of Soviet Communist spies working within the US government, including the presidential staff, State Dep't., Treasury, CIA, US Army, the Dep't of energy-Nuclear Div. et alia., then this film is a short but valuable piece of history showing how liberals like to lie in order to trash true Patriots - even in 1954 and 1986.

My cousin works at a movie store and he had just got in a very small order of Witch Hunter, we watched it(with the ok from his boss)and we laughed at how bad it was! I gave the movie the 2nd star because i was too entertained by laughing.
