I have had a diamond knife sharpener for about 5 years now. I can not use a wheat rock. My knife just gets duller. I have a large family and when they come to visite my wife and I they bring there knifes and use my sharpener. We like it so well that I bought them all a diamond knife sharpner for Christmass. I haven`t seen them since.Just kidding I have a great family and they all have sharp knives. This sharpener is quick, eazy, dependable and does a great job.

I have been a fan of simultaneous dual edge sharpeners, but most professional grade dual edge machines start around $1000 and need careful adjustment as well as are large and heavy, which is great as a stable platform but results in a hefty shipping cost. When I saw the Mcgowan here at Amazon the unbelievably reasonable pricing and the great feedback from several experienced users convinced me to make the order. M

Fortunately I read the instructions which emphasized the initial runs would be to acquire a new angle, and from then the machine would sharpen the knife with a consistent hollow grind. My first attempts were disappointing because of the roughness of the first cuts, and I thought there would be a lot of lost metal and burrs to deal with, but after the 3rd try and a little trust in the instructions I found the groove and the type of knife the Mcgowan was suitable for and haven't looked back since then.

My suggestion for those who have run into a similar situation is to be patient and by the 5th or 6th light pull through the dual up-turning wheels, you will feel the tension of the metal start to ease up, and if you take a look at the edge using a 30x microscope, you will not see burring which means the machine can turn out a razor sharp edge in a shorter time than any other consumer sharpening machine, at least in my experience.

My thanks to the other users whose feedback makes shopping at Amazon a positive and reliable adventure.

The title is, I believe, accurate. Prior to owning this design, I had tried about every other sharpener out there, and a few recent designs since. Nothing compared.

This one replaced my older model with ordinary stones, which went to the garage as a utility sharpener - does great on the front portion of a utility knife, and is much faster than changing blades. Though it took a few knives to "break in" the diamond stones, it seems now to be as good as my older one, made by Hutchenson Industries, but apparently the same as the McGowan.

Contrary to a goodly supply of hucksters, knives get dull. Rather than purchase expensive knives, buy this sharpener and less expensive knives, or, as I did, go the the Goodwill. I have kept my "Goodwill" knives razor sharp for many decades, and, thanks to Hutchenson and McGowan, for the past few decades, that has been simple and easy. Thanks to this sharpener and its predecessor, my ceramic "steel" is used only on the most demanding occasions.

I gave my first on to one of my daughters after having it for a decade or so and bought another for me. I use it 2-3 times a month and sharpen from 2 to 20 knives each time. It has counter rotating wheels which are far more effective than the back and forth vibration of most other types of sharpeners. It also will not clog.

About the only downside it has is shared with most sharpeners in that you must pass a knife through about 10 times the first time you use it to "re-cut" the bevel to match the bevel angle of the sharpener.

I thin over the years I've bought about a dozen of these as I've given one to all of my family and close friends

This sharpener is awesome. It is really easy to use and the more you use it the better you will get at sharpening knifes. I've sharpened steak knifes, larger cutting knifes and pocket knifes. Just follow the directions for the first time sharpening and you will have razor sharp knifes.
