Soulful Hip-Hop for everyone,

This review is from: Mckay (Audio CD)
With music that is modern, but envokes a wonderfdully retrospectful soul vibe, and THAT voice... this is a record that crosses boundries.
It's radio friendly, but is clever enough and its beats dirty enough to appeal not only to classic hip-hop fans, but most people who like beat-led music. The production shows the Portishead mixing vibes, and that is no bad thing - this is a record that knows how to use sound like a paintbrush. Stephanie McKay is on interesting vocalist, she can sing but is at her most deft and sexy when she is deliverying almost ragga-like vocals. Nearest artists? I can think of very few artists that rival her, the nearest I can think of is if Martina Topley-Bird had kept working with Tricky, and been transported back to the 70's to join the motown explosion. An incredibly addictive recording.

MCKAY, the album,

I have to honestly say MCKAY is easily one of the best albums I have ever heard. I made the purchase over the internet after having heard the single "Tell Him" on MTVbase late one night. It has such an original feel to it. Its so warm, captivating, raw and soulful. All the tracks on the album are unique, they all jell together really well. Its one of the most complete albums in todays market. I am disappointed however with her record company for not having the balls to really promote this album. If she succeeds its purely through her own merits and public word of mouth. True lovers of music will discover this album. This will grow and grow until suddenly everbody will be singing her praise. Well done MCKAY. You are a true musician and a star. I love your soul.

I found out about this album through the Internet. I've never seen McKay on TV or magazines.. I bought this album in a whim, I was just curious (and I don't usually do that). I can honestly say that "McKay" is probably one of the best albums released in 2003, I don't know why people slept on this.. Anyway, I think McKay has done a really solid album, mixing Soul with R&B, Hip-Hop and a touch of Blues. If I have to compare her to some other female singer I'll say Alicia Keys, but don't get me wrong, McKay's got her own style, and that's why I like her album so much because she's different to everyone else. I've been listening to this album for a week and I didn't have to skip a single song yet. I recommed yall to listen to this wonderful cd, I'm pretty sure you won't be dissapointed.
