5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Photographic Atlas For Human Gross Anatomy, July 12, 2002

To all those who are looking for a photographic atlas of anatomy, LOOK NO FURTHER THAN McMINN's. This atlas has dissections and photos that are the epitomy of anatomical science. The book itself is beautifully organized into logical sections that integrate osteology, myology, and anatomy into a comprehensive package. After I read this book, I was ready for anything my professors could dish out on practicals. However, for written (theoretical) anatomy, you will need a descriptive atlas (I recommend Grant's). All in all, this book is extremely useful, and I recommend it to any allied health student who has to take anatomy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent detail using real dissections, November 15, 1999
By A Customer
As a medical student I was looking for more detailed descriptions of muscle attachments as well as of the actual placement of structures in the human body. McMinn's Atlas has first-class dissections that expose the human body and its structures clearly, and also covers osteology thoroughly. I found the sites of muscle attachments to be most helpful. I highly recommend this atlas for students who just cannot get enough information from drawings. McMinn's Atlas uses the real thing; it is an excellent resource and investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Source of Knowledge, September 15, 2000

This CD is just fantastic ! Being a medical student... I was in total awe when Professor Peter Abrahams presented this to our class. Never was my attention so focused on one thing. I highly recommend this CD to any person in the medical field and who is interested in having an excellent grasp on the Anatomy of the Human Body. This CD gives a 3D aspect on every aspect of the human body - bones, muscles, joints etc and that's just the beginning. This is definitely one you should have as part of your medical resources.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most beautiful anatomy photographs ever published!, January 8, 2002
By
Eugene Wong (Sydney, Australia) - See all my reviews
The photos in this atlas could be exhibited in an art gallery: the dissections are pure class and the photography is breathtaking. I had no problems whatsoever identifying what was what because (1) there aren't arrows all over the place (the features are labelled with numbers) and (2) the size and resolution of the images are life-size or close (not those tiny pictures in other atlases and previous editions of this atlas). For the head and neck, no atlas can come close: the photos are exceptionally good (even for an atlas of this class) and show different perspectives of the same aspect in good quantity. Quantity however is the downside for the rest of the atlas. Although the photographs are great, there aren't really enough pictures for you to have a satisfying review session. It's probably this fact, and the high price of this book, that has caused Rohen & Yokochi's colour atlas to head the market in its stead. Rohen & Yokochi is a great atlas, but McMinn's is a GREAT atlas. If there were only more photos in McMinn's, all other atlases would be out of print.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE FOR 1ST YEAR MEDICAL STUDENTS, March 28, 2004
By A Customer
I can't speak highly enough of this atlas. The pictures are very clear and do a great job of representing the type of anatomy most students are tested on. If you have do not have an anatomy background before starting medical school, this book is an absolute must have. I took my book down to the dissection area and made comparisons. I aced all my anatomy practicals, and I am quite certain that it was due to this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simplied & Understandable, July 19, 1998
By A Customer
I'm a 1st year Physio student. When I first started studying Anatomy, the trouble was to find a book that gave the most knowledge in an easy, understandable way. After searching through all the available atlas, I found this one, Mcminn 's new edition of the atlas of human anatomy, the best buy of all.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great resource, November 9, 2006

I really enjoyed the amount of detail in books such as these. My only trigger is that you will find some information lacking. I have yet to find a whole anatomy book with EVERYTHING. Ofcourse I do have to emphasize that you'd need a special need to have more detail than the info available here. Overall, its pretty clear and informative. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for any anatomy class, December 19, 2005
By
Hopeful (Bay Area (Calif)) - See all my reviews
As someone (MS degree in chem engineering) with 20-years experience in engineering and zero in anatomy, I changed careers in my 40's, deciding to attend Palmer West Chiropractic College. Gross anatomy I is a Q1 course and the recommended text is Netter's Anatomy. While Netter's drawings are fine, they lack real-life detail that only real anatomical features can present. In addition, Netter's shows primarily medial/lateral detail that sometimes can cause concern. Inevitably this leads to some confusion (which you can bet this bit of confusion is going to be on the midterm or final exam). This can be a problem if you cannot spend you life in the cadaver lab. McMinn's Color Atlas is an outstanding guide and uses the real thing shown at various positions (superior, inferior, lateral, medial, etc).

Highly detailed photographs of bones, for example, are presented side-by-side. One photo showing detail and the other showing muscle origin/insertion. Advantage McMinn's. Ligaments, such as the alar, PLL, ALL, etc, are displayed in magnificent detail. Game - set - match; McMinn's.

This text is a must-have for med school (which is what I consider Palmer West). It's also great for spinal anatomy classes and all the labs. If you think Netter's is good, you'll absolutely love McMinn's Color Atlas of Human Anatomy.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Companion for Netter's Anatomy, March 7, 2006
By
I purchased this book for Q1 Gross Anatomy I (upper and lower extremities, neck) at chiropractic college along with Netter's Anatomy. This book is a decent companion for Netter but has some shortcomings. The lower extremities detail is better than those for the upper extremities. The photos are okay but some structures, such as neck arteries & Brachial Plexus nerves/branches, are (photographed) too small to be of much value. I was disappointed in that respect. Photographs and details of bones are good quality. Those add to Netter. Overall, it would not have taken much more effort to greatly improve the text. The photographs of the specimen could've included a slightly larger photo for general structure location. Also, displacing (or removing) some of the muscles would've improved ability to locate those smaller structures - especially in the wet lab.
