4.0 out of 5 stars Only You can decide if it's worth it...
For the price that people are charging for a used version of the book, you might want to see if you can borrow it before you plunk down the cash.

The book was written when Cooper was in his late 20's. There's a lot of declarations he makes in the book that probably were absolutely true when he was that age, but obviously are not now. Like telling us that...

4.0 out of 5 stars Only You can decide if it's worth it..., August 6, 2005
This review is from: Me, Alice: The Autobiography of Alice Cooper (Hardcover)
For the price that people are charging for a used version of the book, you might want to see if you can borrow it before you plunk down the cash.

The book was written when Cooper was in his late 20's. There's a lot of declarations he makes in the book that probably were absolutely true when he was that age, but obviously are not now. Like telling us that in his lifestyle, he finds three things useless. Marrage, funerals, and underwear. Well, he's married with kids now. He's been to at least one funeral, and...well, we'll just let the underwear remain one of life's mysteries. It's rather interesting to see how we change in our values and opinions as we get older, and how no one is immune to change. We have a tendency to think that celebrities somehow get frozen in time and will be the same person at 40 as they were at 20.

The book is not for the faint of heart, but then again, Alice Cooper fans are known for not being faint hearted anyway. The general tone of the book makes me feel like I happened to get stuck in a broken elevator with the man, and just to pass the time, we're telling each other our life stories. It's got that casual semi-friendly feeling to it. A few times though, had I been on the elevator, hearing the life story, I would have probably cracked up and said, "Wow, TMI!" You will not look at jelly donuts again without either cringing or laughing.

If you're an Alice Cooper fan, you will want to read this book. You'll probably want to own it, although for the price, it might be too steep.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alice Rocks, October 29, 2000

This review is from: Me, Alice: The Autobiography of Alice Cooper (Hardcover)
I read this book on the internet. After reading it I was hungover for a week while consuming no alchohol that week. This book has lots of interesting information on the Alice Cooper band. Particulary from the mid to late 60's Before they hit it big. this book shows that bands today are no match for the A.C. Band. Also show's music at its most interesting time when Bands were aloud to have fun being a rock stars. The A.C. Band achieved this in spades while keeping the integrity of their raw, organic sound unlike popular music today. This book is like a welcome passport to that time and revisit a great band gone but not forgotten.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond Excellent, January 9, 2012
This review is from: Me, Alice: The Autobiography of Alice Cooper (Hardcover)
This book is priceless. He writes this book in a way that you feel like you're sitting on the couch making casual conversation. It's easily understandable, providing the reader with unnecessary comments and whims about his childhood, teen years, and funny things that have occurred in his life as well as providing great-to-know info on the band's early years and Alice's development into what he has become today. I've never and I don't think I ever will read an autobiography with such candid blatancy. So many times I had to put down the book, wide-eyed, and laugh my head off, slightly embarrassed, wondering how in the world something so humorously explicit got published. I've read this book twice from my campus library and not only am I a huge Alice fan but also an intense book collector, so make fun at me all you want but I'm paying $300 to get my own copy, and I will get it signed one day.

4.0 out of 5 stars Me, Alice ... An Interesting long long time ago bedtime story, November 12, 2011
This review is from: Me, Alice: The Autobiography of Alice Cooper (Hardcover)
Jim Morrison had an interesting trip getting to Los Angeles. Vince Furnier and band had an interesting trip getting to Los Angeles. The canyons of L.A. were an interesting place to be in the late 60s and early 70s. And Vince was right there partying with them: Jim, Janis, Suzy Creamcheese.

An interesting era of Drugs (and booze), Sex (pre-AIDS), and Rock And Roll from an on the edge band that could literally empty a nightclub out in about 10 minutes. Gives a great understanding of the characters in the band and how they learned rock music and then stepped beyond what was then imaginable for stage performance. As I recall, the story ends before Vince leaves the band.

Covers a time in history when the mini-skirt and bell bottoms were in, there were no motorcycle helmet laws for Hells Angels or anyone else, and Rock'n'Rollers didn't know what Rehab was. Until later.

Learn about why Vince brought a coffin to the free clinic, how they met Shep & Ezrin, why they came to L.A. and why they left L.A., how very different they were from any other band at the time, how you record one note at a time and edit them together to get a hit song like "I'm 18".

A fun read as a teenager. Wonder if I'd like it now?

5.0 out of 5 stars If Only, July 19, 2010
I read this book when it first came out. I have been searching for many years to find it. I was so taken by the story. I have checked every library search only to find it not in the inventory. No wonder! With a value this high it won't be found anywhere but here. If I could afford it, I would. Just not possible. I was and am a fan from his beginnings. A hard life, a fast life and now a long deserved relaxing game of golf! How fitting....xxoo

5.0 out of 5 stars What's it worth to you?, January 17, 2010
This review is from: Me, Alice: The Autobiography of Alice Cooper (Hardcover)
I read this book in high school in the mid eighties, having been a fan since I was about nine years old. After seeing the prices wanted, I wonder if I would pay that amount. You have to be a hard core Alice fan , and if you are it may be worth it! It gave me a glimpse into the inner workings of my favorite showman at that time. Great stories that will make you laugh and cringe! P.S., the prices are steep because it's an out of print book that probably has only a handful of readable copies left in the world, and it probably won't get a re-print.Remember the Coop!
