Biography

Liverpool indie-rock band Echo & The Bunnymen were formed in 1978 by singer Ian McCulloch, guitarist Will Sergeant and bass player Les Pattinson. Joined by drummer Pete de Freitas, they released their debut album Crocodiles in 1980 and Heaven Up Here in 1981. Both albums were critically acclaimed and saw the band slowly build a reputation towards mainstream popularity. In 1983 they achieved a Top… Read more in Amazon's Echo & The Bunnymen Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Long time Echo fans, here is a great CD for your collection, December 6, 2006
This review is from: Me I'm All Smiles (Audio CD)
Being an Echo fan for over 20 years and being priviledged to see them twice in concert in NYC I will say this is a great live album. Although the venue this was recorded from is obviously for the making of the CD (no one cheers when the songs from the album "Siberia" are sung) it is a well put together concert. Even though Ian's voice cracks and strains (too much smoke and drink?) he can still sing the Bunny tunes! A must have for Bunny fans!

4.0 out of 5 stars As good as it gets, July 30, 2007
This review is from: Me I'm All Smiles (Audio CD)
I'll admit right off that I've never had the opportunity of seeing E&tB live. I was still pretty young and listening to corny pop rock when the grey album and Ocean Rain came out. But I've gotten into them in the last few years, and really enjoy all of their stuff.

This is a GREAT live album. All the predictable songs (Killing Moon, Lips Like Sugar, Rescue), all the usual songs (Villiers Terrace, Ocean Rain, etc.), all the new songs from the newest album, and luckily some oldies and goodies.

All the songs are played amazingly and are faithful to the original. This is a blistering show that sounds like a great representation of the shows they did to support Siberia. I like this one better than Live in Liverpool. The new songs, IMO, are better than the songs from Flowers. One beef is that at times the new songs stick out like a sore thumb in the flow of songs. For instance- the disc starts with Going Up and With a Hip, both pretty hard punk-ish songs. Then the twinkly sequencing of Stormy Weather comes up and sounds odd. It makes me giggle at the strangeness of it.

This is a great set, and I really recommend it to all Bunny fans!

3.0 out of 5 stars Too many glitches, December 1, 2007

The performances are very good and the sound quality is good, but there are many digital sounding glitches similar to a poor MP3. It is sad that such a great band is marred by such sloppy mastering. A fan will want this, but a perfectionist might be a bit annoyed. They tour often, and there is no reason for a CD to be released that is imperfect like this. Again, a great performance that is worth checking out, but just be ready for some distortions that get in the way of the performance.
