Editorial Reviews

Review

"Dick Codey is a dedicated public servant, a state senator, and former governor who has done extraordinary things. Me, Governor? shows Governor Codey as a man of humility, humor, and honor. It is a book that will make you laugh and cry, and his story is one you haven't heard before."
(Bill Bradley former U.S. Senator 2099-01-01)

"Dick Codey may have been 'the accidental governor', but what he got done in his brief time in office was no accident. Instead of running
out the clock, he used his forceful, dynamic personality to drive change, most notably brokering an agreement for the New Meadowlands Stadium. This book is an insightful and entertaining look at his journey."
(Woody Johnson Owner, New York Jets 2099-01-01)

"Dick Codey has seen it all in politics—and then some. He knows how to tell a story and in Me, Governor? we get the full Codey: honest, down-toearth, and funny as hell."
(Michael R. Bloomberg Mayor of the City of New York 2099-01-01)

Loved the book, this man served as acting governor of NJ under 3 consecutive governors, The book is funny, and interesting. He is a true every man, continuing to coach high school basketball even while acting as Governor, Not because it looked good as a politician, but because he loved doing it. If more politicians were like Governor Codey, this world would be a better place.

This is a fairly enjoyable read for politics junkies. It contains some amusing anecdotes and others that are just interesting. It shows the author to be an insightful politician, a devoted family man, and a good friend. He was an effective governor in his short 14-month tenure in that office, more so than the present incumbent and others of the recent past. New Jersey had a series of able to great governors under its current constitution (since 1947) in Driscoll, Meyner, Hughes, Cahill, Byrne and Kean. After them, the State has suffered under mediocre leadership or worse. Codey was a breath of fresh air (however brief) in an inferior line before and after his service.

Senator Codey makes statements that are blatantly and deliberately false and boarder on the bizarre just to aggrandize his own image. A person who writes about their own experiences, especially a politician, may express his opinions, but not make statements that are obviously false. If there is one outstanding falsehood, then it brings into question other statements made. A non-fiction writer has to be able to support the accusations that it makes particularly if they appear to be blatantly false.
