The transformation song...,

The song that plays when Charlie is turning into Hank (the long drum intro, the "hard to hit a moving target" song) is "Fire Like This" by Hardknox. It rules.

Doesn't include the most famous riff in the movie,

I bought this and couldn't believe that it didn't include the famous riff when Charlie morphs into Hank - "Fire Like This" by Hardknox. The rest of the songs are typical corporate pablum shoveled onto a disk that was featured in the movie for a total of 5 seconds. Not recommended

A pleasant soundtrack surprise,

I was leery of this soundtrack before I listened to it. Steely Dan covers? It did help that I was a fan of the bands that were doing the covers. Still, I had my doubts before putting on the headphones. After a few minutes sampling each Steely Dan cover, I was hooked. It's tough to top the originals, but the bands here rise to the task and make the songs their own.My favorite ones were "Any Major Dude" by Wilco, "Only a Fool Would Say That" by Ivy (almost a tropical music feel here) and "Bad Sneakers" by Push Stars. The other Steely covers were no slouches either. The non-Steely songs on here are just fine as well, although it is an odd mix. The Ellis Paul tune is an outstanding country-folk ballad, Hootie adds a great cover song; the songs thrown in by Third Eye Blind, Foo Fighters, and Offspring are good as well. It's great to see a soundtrack take some risks on its music, instead of offering us "Walking on Sunshine" for the 1000th time. I definitely recommend this soundtrack for open-minded Steely Dan fans. If you end up liking the covers, check out the bands' (Wilco, Push Stars, Ben Folds, etc.) respective album catalog; they're well worth listening to. You may also want to try out Steely Dan's back catalog if you don't have it already.

Decent,

I especially love Ivy, so yeah. I have a question about one of the songs that was left off of the soundtrack (of course) . . . it's during the scene where Irene and Hank are in the car (shortly before they send it over the cliff). Kind of a love-sounding song, but I can't make out the lyrics . . . "lying wide awake in the dark", maybe? I'm dying to figure out what this song is!

Not complete, but some good music!,

Most of these songs I really enjoy listening to, whatever I'm doing. After seeing the film I bought this album immediately! The only minus is that there a song not on the album. For those wondering the drum reel with the high-pitched vocals is called 'Fire Like This' by Hardknox. You'll be very lucky to find it and I by chance have a friend who has it on 12" Vinyl! :D

Steely Dan was my first real rock concert at 13 years old. My mom and tons of cassettes in the car-- Aja, The Royal Scam, Countdown to Ecstasy.. the Dan, as they are fondly referred to, are Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, two absolute musical geniuses who made the coolest music ever.
The soundtrack is a nice nod to Steely Dan, but not really a tribute. Steely Dan has always been ahead of the curve, and at least to me, a little chilly as far as an emotional factor is concerned (part of why they're so damn cool). Maybe the Farrellys thought the 'cool' factor worked. Who knows. My beef with the soundtrack is that the best song in the movie is XTC's "I Like That," which took me forever to find (thanks reelsoundtrack.com!).

Lots of key songs missing,
This review is from: Me, Myself & Irene (Audio CD)
I really enjoyed this movie and a lot of the songs in the movie.. however, there are a LOT of key songs that establish the feel for this movie, missing on the soundtrack CD. HardKnox, Cake, and there is one song that I have been on an endless mecca to find.. the song when Charlie's sons pull him out of the river in the helicopter at the end.. can SOMEONE PLEASE tell me the name and artist of that song.

Ellis Paul stands out,
By Mrs. Jones (Anytown, USA) - See all my reviews

The Ellis Paul's "The World Ain't Slowing Down" is the highlight of this soundtrack just as the song is the highlight of the movie. It's hard to believe the song wasn't written FOR the movie; it's such a spectacular fit. There's no way to not want to sing along or dance in the aisles. It's a grabber.

Couldve been better,
This review is from: Me, Myself & Irene (Audio CD)
There are some good songs on this soundtrack, but ultimately I'd recommend purchasing single songs you like, or buying the artist's cd. The drums in the grocery store song is "Fire Like This" by Hardknox, and its exclusion from the soundtrack is the reason I didn't ultimately purchase this CD.
