Book Description

December 30, 2009

Me, Myself, and Lies: A Thought Closet Makeover - Member Book by Jennifer Rothschild provides a personal study experience five days a week plus viewer guides for the group video sessions of this women's Bible study that encourages them to clean out the junk in their minds and replace hidden negative thoughts with positive truths from God's word.

Words are powerful. Especially the words women speak to themselves. All too often, what they say to themselves when they lie in bed at night or look in the mirror in the morning is not even close to the words God wants them to speak to their souls. According to Rothschild, what we think about often has a ripple effect on nearly every area of our lives. (7 sessions)

The Member Book includes:

  • 6 weeks of personal interactive study (five days a week)
  • Viewer guides for the video introductory session plus the 6 weekly video sessions
  • Leader guidance with instructions for facilitating the group sessions

More About the Author

'We walk by faith and not by sight.' 2 Corinthians 5:7 'It is well with my soul.' For Jennifer Rothschild, these words are much more than the lyrics from a familiar hymn; they represent a foundation upon which many life lessons have been learned in the dark. At the young age of fifteen, Jennifer was diagnosed with a rare, degenerative eye disease that would eventually steal her sight. It was more than a turning point for the Miami, Fl, native. Her dreams of becoming a commercial artist and cartoonist faded. Words and music have replaced her canvas and palette for more than 25 years. Known for her substance, and a down-to-earth style, Jennifer weaves together colorful illustrations, universal principles, and music to help audiences find contentment, walk with endurance, and celebrate the ordinary. Through her signature wit and poignant story-telling, audiences are prompted to look beyond their circumstances to find unique 'gifts,' in unusual packaging. Jennifer has taken her message of encouragement across the country speaking at national and regional gatherings of busy professionals, dedicated volunteers, salt-of-the-earth farmers, impressionable youth, and overwhelmed moms and dads. Jennifer has been a featured speaker for the Women of Faith arena events, and has teamed up with Beth Moore to lead LifeWay's National Women's Conferences. Thousands have come away with a new vision for their work, their family, and their future. Jennifer is the author of Fresh Grounded Faith (2008), Self Talk, Soul Talk (2008), Lessons I Learned in the Light (July 2006) Fingerprints of God (Multnomah, 2005), and Lessons I Learned in the Dark (Multnomah, 2002), and two best-selling DVD-enhanced bible studies, Walking by Faith (LifeWay, 2003) and Fingerprints of God (LifeWay, 2005). Her most recent study is Me, Myself and Lies: A Thought-Closet Makeover (Lifeway 2009) and is based on her popular book Self Talk, Soul Talk. In addition to her writing and speaking ministry, Jennifer is an accomplished songwriter and recording artist, with six albums to her credit including Walking by Faith: The Music Captured Live, Along the Way, and others. Her life story and message has been the cover story of numerous national publications including Virtue magazine, Becoming Family magazine, HomeLife magazine, and others. She's been interviewed on national TV and radio programs including The Chuck and Jenni Show, Hour of Power, Life Today, Family Life Radio, TBN, and others. Jennifer is also founder and publisher of the popular online magazine, WomensMinistry.NET. She resides in Springfield, Missouri with her husband of 24 years, Dr. Philip Rothschild, and their two sons, Clayton and Connor. She enjoys nature walks, visits to theme parks, and riding a bicycle built for two. She got a real charge singing the national anthem for the Atlanta Braves and bungee-jumping from seven and a half stories.

This book captured my attention when it was selected by Beth Moore for the 2009 Summer Bible Study. I purchased seven copies and found some friends to join me in the study. Since I also wrote a blog about the book [...] I found myself going deeper into my faith and inside my own thought closet. The study began with a gentle "spring cleaning" of my thoughts and ended with a "wardrobe makeover." I was shocked to learn about the thoughts that were driving my decisions and thoughts that were not centered around God. The book showed me the thoughts behind my lukewarm faith and gave the tools I needed to claim a burning faith for God. I recommend this book for women who feel something is wrong in their lives, but cannot center on the root of their problems. The book is a discovery of self and a transformation towards faith centered thinking. Buy it today and refresh your thought closet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every woman should read this book. August 28, 2009
Format:Paperback
We women are so guilty of "not thinking about what we're thinking about." This book helped me to focus on the frequently destructive thoughts rambling around in my mind--and to replace those thoughts with God's truth. I am so thankful I went through this workbook with a study group from my church. It has changed me for the better. "As a man thinks in his heart, so is he."

4.0 out of 5 stars Ouch November 27, 2009

Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
At first glance, this seems like a simple Bible study. However, as you work through the chapters and are forced to think about what you think about...all I can say is OUCH. Life changing, enlightening, painful and joyous. I highly recommend the study, but only if you are prepared to be honest with yourself !

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical Help for Reeling in Your Emotions June 9, 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Me, Myself and Lies is a practical 6-week Bible study that will help you:

*Uncover lies you have subconciously been believing & replace them with biblical truth
*Understand your identity in Christ
*Learn to speak truth to yourself even when you don't feel it
*Invite Christ to be Lord of your mind & your source of aboslute Truth
*Readily navigate situations that previously caused emotional freak-outs with truth and grace

Jennifer Rothschild is a real and transparent teacher who walks you through the craziness of navigating your emotions as someone who has been there before. Unashamed to show you the ugly parts of her own life/emotions so you can learn from her mistakes, Rothschild's short homework assignments give you much to think about long after you shut the book each day.

I am recommending this book to everyone I know. It is an excellent resource.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helped me through what I needed April 10, 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
As I do with all my purchases, I read all the on this book before I bought it. First I need to tell you, you have to buy the CD with it, they don't mention that anywhere. But it helped me get over an "era" in my life and start a new way of thinking about myself.
It is difficult because you go thru the Bible and actually understand the power of words even in the first two pages of the workbook. Then you realize what you have been doing to yourself and...oops! cant give that away! you will have to buy the book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sets a Great Foundation December 14, 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I ordered this book in Feb 2010 after I recently decided to make some major lifestyle changes. This book was just what I needed to build a solid foundation for my spiritual growth. I loved every moment of it! I prayed. I read. I wrote notes. I read my Bible every day. I have since found myself a great group of christian ladies and regularly study my Bible and spend time in prayer. I continue to seek God's will in every aspect of my life. The book isn't going to magically transform anyone. You have to make the decision to seek the truth and God's will for you on your own. This book was a great tool to get me started on the right path. I am very happy with this purchase!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Bible Study for any Woman! October 18, 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was one of the best Bible studies I've ever done. What a great subject and so needed in the church today...honesty from Rothschild and her insight is very encouraging, while tackling a tough subject that is very difficult for many of us to think about. I have struggled with body image issues especially and this Bible study was very helpful. I think that every woman would benefit from this study!

5.0 out of 5 stars GOOD READ! May 10, 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book has been very beneficial to me. It has allowed me to strengthen my faith and relationship with God in a way I did not think was possible before. I was always intimated by the thought of examining what I was actually thinking, but Jennifer makes it very approachable. She provides you with the tools and scriptures you need to refine your thought closet. I would recommend this book to all women!
