3.0 out of 5 stars It was okay....
It was a good book for girls to read because it basically tells you to stay away from alcohol and drugs. But I didn't get too into it...it was very fast-paced.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great And Inspirational Book For Girls Everywhere., March 1, 2001
By
This review is from: The Me Nobody Knew: A Story of Triumph for All Girls (Single Titles) (Paperback)
I picked up this book, because I saw it had something to do with an eating disorder. While suffering with anorexia and bulimia, I decided to read the book out of interest. Actually, the book was not just about an eating disorder. It was so much more than that! The author writes about her life, starting from her early teen years, to where she is now. She lived through years of depression, alcohol, and more. The writing is excellent. I could relate to what she wrote so much, it felt like she was me. She wrote about how her relationship with her parents changed drasticaly, and how she would go out with just about any guy just to remain 'popular'. The book has different sub titles, and its great. Towards the end of the book, after she is raped, Shannon decides to change her life around and love her self, her family, and life a lot more. She really inspired me, she says that no one should have to live up to anything anyone else tells them to. That there is no 'perfect body', and there is a partner out there for everyone. She has triggered me to try my best at recovery, and find my true self, as corny or cliche as it sounds. I highly reccomend this powerful novel!

5.0 out of 5 stars wow!, July 14, 2004
This review is from: The Me Nobody Knew: A Story of Triumph for All Girls (Single Titles) (Paperback)
i LOVED this book.. mainly because it was exactly like me. I can relate to every word. As it said in the book " i was in 8th grade when i had realized i had been depressed for a year now." In 8th grade i realized i had been depressed for a long time as well. I had exspiranced things that had changed my life forever. I had always been upset a lot. Like when my mom got cancer and when i found out my kid brother was barried on the same day as my brithday. I had always been an unhappy child... not as much as i am now. I had a twin who had died and my kid brother died and i was scared about my mother leaving too. Then when my sister died and came back to life and was in a coma and i had witnessed it allmy whole life had changed forever. i then started to starve myself. After my sister came hoem from the hospital and i had been taking antidepressants i become more upset because they weren't working for me (atleast i didn't think they were) all i ever wanted was to be happy.. so i took 100mg instead of 10mg a day for a week and i ended up in the hospital.. and in the psyh ward and they took me off the meds... and about a week after that i started to starve myself again... and my friend gave me this book and i read it and i was like " wow!" the book was like based on me or something it was crazy!!!! i LOVED this book it's my favorite and i deffinatly recommend the book to any girl

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for teens!, July 14, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Me Nobody Knew: A Story of Triumph for All Girls (Single Titles) (Paperback)
I loved this book and feel every teen should read it. Shannon gives an honest retelling of her life in middle school and the time and effort she spent trying to be someone she wasn't. She talks about her struggles as a teen to fit in with other teens who preferred to follow a path of doings drugs, going to parties, and skipping school. More importantly, Shannon writes about how she overcame the desire to follow her peers and how she refused to believe the standard of beauty that the media defied for her and other teens. This book is inspirational and sends out words of wisdom from a depressed, confused teen who has been there. This book inspires teens to be themselves in a society that is trying to prevent them from doing this.

This was the most amazing book I've ever read in my entire life. It made me cry, it made me think about life. Shannon McLinden has an amazing outlook on life and I think that everybody should think this way. She totally tells in such an incredible way that we're all great the way we were made and we need to live based on the goal that we will be happy. We're here to make ourselves happy, not to impress other people. Thank you Shannon McLinden for writing this book, now I have learned one of the most important lessons there are to learn in life.

I read this book when I was a freshman in highschool. I looked at the title, read the back, and instantly felt a connection. It made me feel so good, and when I finished it, I had the biggest smile on my face. It made me feel like no book has before. Thank you for the strength you helped me find.

2.0 out of 5 stars just another story..., August 17, 2002

I must say that I was highly disappointed with this book. McLinden's writing style was fine, and the book was an easy read, but her problems hardly seemed rare at all. While I'm sure her intention was to write a book that others could relate to, I found her words whiney and at times, annoying. It was almost as though she seemed to be over-exaggerating her problems and trying to get more attention. ...
