Me think this book make life worth living,
This review is from: In Me Own Words: The Autobiography of Bigfoot (Hardcover)
You really, really want know bigfoot better? He misunderstood, that true. But Graham save Bigfoot from peril of obscurity. Make Bigfoot seem like best friend--same as Sylvia Plath poetry make me want know her. You read this book and be better, OK? Make you forget Iraqi civil war and avian flu.

I almost peed my pants,
By S. "S" (New York, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In Me Own Words: The Autobiography of Bigfoot (Hardcover)
This is one of the funniest books I've ever read. The illustrations are amazing! They appear to be simple watercolors but are really essential to the story line (if you want to call it that). Bigfoot talks quite openly about his life, his emotions and ambitions. Bigfoot has feelings too. He covers issues ranging from having a tough childhood, not being able to have a date for the prom, weight and body hair issues, and his relationship with Koko the gorilla. You come to realize that Bigfoot is a brilliant misunderstood genius who wishes that his stalkers would leave him alone, but at the same time craves fame and fortune.

In Me Own Words,

This review is from: In Me Own Words: The Autobiography of Bigfoot (Hardcover)
Book best I read in long time. So funny I mark territory outside my house to attract this bigfoot. Join in shocking adventures of curiosity, cannibalism, and tender homeboy stories. This book good. Loc Ness book bad. Opening page sells the book, but I won't tell about it. Buy it or I eat you wallet and then you face.If you can handle how the this review was written you'll piss your pants laughing. The book is ingenious and is well worth the time it takes to order. Happy reading.

I bumped into this little gem while Christmas shopping. I was laughing so hard just flipping through it in the store, I was starting to cry. So I bought two copies for gifts, and now I'm going back for more. A true masterpiece! The blend of the graphics with the story is pure genius.

Get a diaper- you'll wet yourself laughing!,
By Carly (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In Me Own Words: The Autobiography of Bigfoot (Hardcover)
I stumbled across this book in an excellent graphic novel store in Montreal. I picked it up, flipped through it, and began to read... and caused a commotion. I swear to god, I can't remember laughing like that in ages- I mean, mascara running, eyes crying, shaking and shrieking laughing.Bigfoot is a sensitive, misunderstood soul. He writes poetry about his personal pain ("I hit you with log"), makes friends in Las Vegas at a roulette wheel, and talks about the love/hate relationship with his fans ("I not Chewbacca" "No splash me with holy water- it no work"), along with other subjects important in his life. The illustrations capture the spirit of the book- they are messy, inky and full of energy. If you have a dry sense of humour, appreciate the absurd, and dig character-based comedy you have found the perfect book. I ordered it for a gift for someone and I've flipped through it again before wrapping it, and it's still left me laughing as hard as when I first read it- that in itself says something.

The Secret Life of Bigfoot Revealed!,
By Geoff Oldham (Tell City, IN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In Me Own Words: The Autobiography of Bigfoot (Hardcover)
Celebrity autobiography is a strange, unique genre unto its own. Maybe it's because most celebrities don't have a particular knack for writing, meaning that one of two things happen: they work with a ghostwriter who "cleans up" the language and makes the book sound nothing like the supposed author, or the celebrity writes it on their own and it's wonderfully incomprehensible, just like them. I think that's just one of the many reasons why Graham Roumieu's In Me Own Words: The Autobiography of Bigfoot is so utterly brilliant. You don't get much more of a dead-on parody than this.
Bigfoot's lived a long and troubled life, and at last he's ready to share the details. From his friendship with Koko the talking gorilla, to his time in Hollywood, to the tragic death of Denis, anything and everything is finally laid out in the open for all to see. Witness the rise and fall of an American icon. And, as an added bonus: poetry! Roumieu writes In Me Own Words as a series of short essays by Bigfoot about his life, and it's hard to pick a favorite. Is it the tales of Bigfoot and Koko's friendship soon after Bigfoot's divorce where we learn about Koko's secret fetish? Or maybe it's Bigfoot talking about why he sold his condo and moved thanks to those evil squirrels and their slide whistles that they'd play all hours of the night. And then there's Denis... poor, poor Denis. Roumieu writes Bigfoot's voice as a beautiful combination of innocence and stupidity, and it's hard to not mentally generate a specific sound for the narration as the book moves on in strange and bizarre new directions. Each little anecdote is funny in its own right, but the combination of them all together makes In Me Own Words laugh-out-loud funny. You can't talk about In Me Own Words without also mentioning Roumieu's gorgeous watercolor paintings. Roumieu paints Bigfoot as a hulking oaf, the perfect match to the character's writing. Each page is a combination of Bigfoot's hand-written scrawl and a matching illustration, from grinning squirrels to hamsters in toy cars. As strange as the writing in In Me Own Words gets, the illustrations are even more so. It's hard to not boggle at images of Bigfoot with his baseball cap and chains "chillin with [his] homies", or playing guitar in a rock band complete with long hair and flannel shirt. Roumieu's writing is near-perfect for In Me Own Words, but it's his art that completes the package into something truly unique. In Me Own Words is one of those very rare books which is funny not once or twice, but every time you read it. Every time you pull the book out, you're going to start laughing, even stronger than before. It's just that good. Despite the holidays being two months away, if you're looking for that perfect gift for someone I know just what you need. Just buy two copies, because once you get a look at it you'll want to keep one for yourself.

This was written before "Me Write Book", but it's just as funny. I love this series and I hope we hear from Mr. Foot again. I do hope we don't find out later that he made segments up a la James Frey; if Oprah had to have him on her show, it could get ugly.....

Bigfoot Writes His Memoirs,
By
This review is from: In Me Own Words: The Autobiography of Bigfoot (Hardcover)
Even though this is an illustrated book, it's really more for adults than small children. The humor might escape wee ones, although they would enjoy the pictures, which are funny and well done in a simple style that's reminiscent of the illustrations in Shel Silverstein's books. I't s quick read, but definitely a good find. An fine choice as a coffee table book.

Really *know* Bigfoot by reading this book,
This review is from: In Me Own Words: The Autobiography of Bigfoot (Hardcover)
I always thought Bigfoot was a scary monster with no soul or real feelings. This book disabused me of that opinion from the first page. Bigfoot is not a vampire. Bigfoot is an aspiring actor. Bigfoot hates his cat. Bigfoot writes poetry. I never knew. Thanks to this raw, emotionally vulnerable book I feel like I really know Bigfoot. I'm a different person now. Thank you, Bigfoot. |
