A waste of money!,
By AC (Burbank, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Copy DVD's 2 (CD-ROM)
I bought this program because it said outside the box "copy any dvd including the latest hollywood movies".That's not true, after installing this program I tried to copy some dvds I owned and it always gave me an error. So I went to their web site and in one of the pages it says that it won't copy any dvd that has CSS copy protected feature. Meaning almost 95 percent of the dvds out there. SO I wasted my money on this purchase. Be aware of false advertisement of this product.

Even with a DeCSS program - this is junk..,

It turns out you can get a program called DVD-43 that will allow you to make backups of your DVD movies using this program by providing access to the DeCSS algorithm. But the compression (modification) technology that this tool uses to accomplish this makes the video quality *unbearable* in the duplicate. You can *see* the compression - even on a cheap TV set.Don't bother with this program - it's just complete junk.

Doesn't Copy Any DVD,
By A Customer
This review is from: I Copy DVD's 2 (CD-ROM)
The box boasts of being able to "copy any movie", but that isn't the case. It does not have CSS encoding software built in, which is how most commercial DVDs are recorded.I do not have any experience with copying non-encoded DVDs with this software.

Needs additional software,
By Kristin Miller (Tampa, Fl) - See all my reviews

I bought this thinking it would be easy to use, but I needed to download additional software from the internet. Even after I downloaded it to override the copyright protection, I still could not back up copies of certain DVD's.

I Copy DVDs 2 is a RIP-OFF!!!!,

I bought this software in spite of all the negative reviews because reviewer A. Ranusch, review date 7/29/2004, refers to a web site that gives this software decent reviews. I figured all the other reviewers overlooked something.I also downloaded a free CSS decrypter, DVD43, which allows this software to read commercial movies. It took this software took about 30 minutes to read the movie and created a temporary video file. It then prompted me to insert the blank disk into the DVD reader/writer. After inserting disk, I clicked on the "copy" icon and NOTHING happens. This software freezes up. I removed and inserted the blank disk several times and can't get the software to unfreeze. I shut down the software and the newly created video file is automatically deleted. I have a relatively new computer, Pentium 2.4 Ghz with Windows XP. Prior to beginning the copying process,I had shut down all anti-virus, firewall, and unnecessary programs running in the background to avoid freeze ups. Apparently this does not help. This software does not come with a users manual and the help menu within the CD is so sparse that it is useless. The manufacturers' web site have only a few "Frequently Asked Questions" and is practically useless. Bottom Line: This software is full of glitches. If you purchase this software, you'll be flushing $50.00 down the toilet. I have one last tip. There are 2 editions of this software, a "standard" edition for about $50.00 and a "basic" edition for about $30.00. I held the boxes of the 2 editions side by side and they are identical except that one says "standard edition" and the other says "basic edition". The product description, functions, and computer memory requirements are identical for both editions. This leads me to believe that both editions are probably identical except that the "basic" edition is for suckers and the "standard" edition is for bigger suckers.

A little know how can get alot outta this.,

This program is worth its weight in gold if you just use a little know how. When I first bought it I thought the same thing as many others seem to still think, "it doesn't copy any protected dvd's!" The answer is that it does copy protected dvd's. What the program does not do is remove the copyright protection from the disc. On the other hand, you can download a free program that takes care of that for you. And it is so simple that once you install this second program (if you get the right one) then it works automaticly when ever you place a dvd in your drive. The "I Copy DVD 2" software tells you all of this during the install process so I am not sure why anyone would not know to go online and get this second software. So the program does what it says it will do, you just have to complete an extra step. As far as the quality issues? For under 50 bucks you can not expect much better. Most of the copies that I manage to make seem to suffer little to no ill effect to my eyes from the copying process. As far as that goes I would remind people of this; the program is supposed to be used to make one (1) legal back-up of any dvd that you have purchased in order to protect your original from wear. As in our case, we make copies of our movies for my daughter who does things like leave discs out on the floor, or just plain looses them. If she does any of this then we have only really lost the cost of a blank disc which is way less then the cost of the actual movie! What I believe is assumed by the manufaturer is that if people use it as intended, they can just choose to copy the actual movie and not the ENTIRE contents (special features, menus, etc.) of the DVD which will provide a much better quality copy because the software has to compress less data to fit onto a dvd disc. If a person wants to see the extra content then they can turn to their orignal dvd for this. If your intentions are to build your dvd collection by renting movies and making copies so that you don't have to pay to actually buy them then this is not for you. The technology that compression labs use to make retail dvds is very advanced and expensive and could never be packaged and sold for under 50 bucks. I gave the program only 4 stars beacause from time to time it seems to run into problems copying a movie and ruins a blank disc. Although I have no idea why this happens, it does not happen nearly enough to discourage me from recomending this to anyone.

First thing I have to say, this software does not worth even a penny. If you can get it for free, (or free after rebate), get it to satisfy your curiousness. If you have to pay (...) DON'T BUY IT.Like other customers said, the box stated: Copy movies in an hour, Make completed back up of Hollywood movies ... Totally deception, ridiculous. After I installed, it said, "This version can only copy DVDs that do not have CSS copyright". If I can find a Hollywood movie that does not have CSS copy right, what in the world do I need this software for ???. To respond my frustration, the Instruction file said:"If you live in the country where the copyright law does not apply, you can go to a website to download an "additional software" to accompany with I Copy DVDs 2 to back up movies". OK, I go to that website and get that software for free ... trial (!?!). After installed and run it prior to I Copy DVDs 2, it allowed to read the movies. Seems it worked, at least. But it does not, after 1 hour and a half of just reading the DVD movie (the box said total back up time is only 1 hour, and my PC is a fast Pentium 4, by the way), it promted to insert a blank DVD, then it burned the disc. It really BURNED the DVD+R, cooked it and killed it in 5 seconds, then finally ejected the poor, dead DVD+R out with a messege "Error writing DVD". It happened the same when I tried to duplicate my family video DVDs, which do not have any copyright protection nor any errors. So far, it killed 5 of my DVD+/-Rs, and those blank DVDs are not free, you know. I called customer service number (the one I called to claim the License ID and serial number), the number seems disappeared... This software is not only useless but also wastes your time and drives you crazy. So I suggest you NEVER ever buy it.

Awful support,
By
This review is from: I Copy DVD's 2 (CD-ROM)
This software worked OK for a few monthas, then became inoperative because of an execution error. Tech support said the program would not work with "Dr. Watson," and referred me to Microsoft's web site. No luck. I called again; they said that they could not provide support for Microsoft software. If you have XP Professional, it may or may not work.

This review is from: I Copy DVD's 2 (CD-ROM)
Yes its a BIG FRAUD. The box clearly says "Copies any Hollywood Movies"..give me a break. It will not copy any of the Hollywood movies (that you own) as they are all CSS protected. The manufacturers will refer you to some web page asking you to download DVD ripping software. Then WHY to buy this Software??? DON'T Wast your money. Don't go by the review posted by "A. Ranusch " (4 stars), he might be from "I Copy DVD2". |
