For $12.35, you get a binder and 5 dividers. But, it seems like half the cost comes from the name brand.
I still like it though. It's sturdy & convenient... I guess I just thought it should include at least one folder insert.
Also, there is only one loop which holds a single pen or pencil. Trapper Keeper should have more "bells & whistles"...
Hope this helped... Happy shopping! :)
I had really arrived. But, the Trapper Keeper worked hard. It had a laminated cover you could wipe clean, a velcro closure, and tons of room for all your papers and folders. Sadly, my Trapper Keeper was retired in middle school when it ceased to be cool, but I never forgot its workhorse character and stylin' appearance. I've since replaced the Trapper with binders, folders, and in my senior year of high school, nothing, when I prided myself on never doing homework (not a great plan, self!).
I was hoping for a renewed affection for the Trapper Keeper when this outsized binder appeared with the same name. Unfortunately, it is NOT the Trapper Keeper I knew and loved. It is simply a really big three-ring binder, made with cardboard and covered with nylon canvas fabric. It has five single dividers, a laminated cover in which you can slip papers in, an interior sleeve for papers, and a snap closure that doesn't work too well. The clip rings are tough to open and the whole thing is bulky and clumsy. This is not the Trapper Keeper of my youth; it's simply a big, sad, three-ring binder.
I take away a star because the closing mechanism isn't practical. It's just a little magnetic nub that sticks up and the ring is supposed to close over it, but if you actually put anything IN the binder (mine is full of about 1.5 inches of coupons) it can't close because the nub is too short. I should have spent the extra $5 and gotten a zipper close binder.
A second lessor benefit of the Trapper-Keeper is the clear sheet-protector on the outside snap/side. I guess it would be useful for a class schedule ... but ah... otherwise, it's probably just going to be utilized for vanity photos by kids, and the only full-sheet sized flap storage area on the binder. I noticed it was streaked by whatever I had on my fingers for lunch, so that clear sheet will probably get pretty nasty quick with the boy-children... just saying!
That is about where the comparative benefits of the Trapper Keeper end, and the reason why you should look toward the other MEAD products begins. Unlike the Trapper-Keeper, The Five-Star products have some significantly beneficial features such as full zipper closures, varying sizes including 1", 1.5" and 2" binding, numerous useful internal and external pockets for storing pens, change, calculators and ID, and even compact handles on the spine for easy vertical carrying.Read more ›
We are told we can customize the cover with a photo, and perhaps you can if it's an 8x10, but you cannot print a cover sheet since the clear sleeve does not hold an 8.5x11 inch piece of paper (the snap intrudes on the available space), and the clear plastic divider is scuffed, a problem I saw another reviewer shared.
There are two pockets inside the cover as advertised, but they are very tight and I did not have an easy time slipping even a single sheet of paper into either (perhaps something stiffer like note cards would work).
The five tabbed dividers are fairly stiff but the ring mechanism seems rather flimsy. I am with the other reviewer who had an expectation of more "bells and whistles." This seems rather pedestrian for the price.

I don't understand why schools specify this folder for kids. just an extra flap does not justify the hefty premium. Read morePublished 4 months ago by C. Lee
