Ok. I have withdrawn my previous review in light of a number of items which have turned up. I still say this is a good beginning scope for the amature and I have certainly had any number of good viewings. However, be aware, this is NOT a product that Meade will repair, replace or even talk to you about. They save that for the higher end high quality scopes. So, you break something, you buy new scope. Period. End of story. Additionally, the fine adjustment controls are cheap Chinese crap. Broke from day one (on both brand new scopes I bought). Shipping back to Meade for replacement costs more than scope worth. So the upshot is this. If you buy this scope, buy another tripod arraingment if you can find one to fit. Other wise, go ahead and pony up the extra bucks and get a really good scope. You'll save money and time in the long run, be much happier and probably extend your life expectancy with the lower stress levels!

This is one of the best gifts that I have given my nephew, who is 5. I have to do the adjustment, but it is simple enough for him to learn how to do it when I do it. He can easily focus on the Moon now.

The magnification is very good. You can see the craters on the moon very clearly. Its magnified enough to recognize the craters by their names looking at the moon map.

Starter telescope... yes. Great optics for price... yes. Do the vertical fine adjustment gears shatter when children move the scope without unlocking them... yes. Is telescope functional with shattered vertical fine adjustment gears... NO! Are replacement parts available... NO! ARGGGGG!

My husband and I LOVE this thing! It's perfect for beginners. We look at the moon all the time. I can't seem to find any planets but I haven't watched the CD that came with the product either (which I need to do ASAP). Totally worth it and such a cool gift. Oh, and easy set-up.

Simple, easy to put together, works wonderfully. Not a crazy high-end scope, but perfect for short trips and backyard viewing. Makes a great gift.

This product works great and although I received it as a gift, it works without any problems. I don't know why people gave this product a negative review based on their issues with the seller. Anyways, this is an easy set up for a telescope and two sturdy and good eyepieces. Only con is the mount which may be a "little" too plastic but other than that, this is great. Would definitely encourage to buy for simple viewing.

We received this telescope several weeks ago--one of the parts was broken.
The seller agreed to replace the broken part--but after faxing them our receipt twice, we still have not received the part.
I can't recommend this seller or product.
