My daughter loves this kit. The microscope really works, it's durable and she loves the different types of things she can see with it. Shes made so many different experiments with the different things included in the kit and shes even taking an interest in science. It made her happy so it makes me happy as well.

This kit comes with everything your little scientist needs to get started exploring the microscopic world. We did purchase some extra pre-made slides, but the package hasn't even been opened yet! I only gave this kit 4 out of 5 for durability because in the first two days we went through BOTH of the light bulbs provided. They each burned out after about 30 minutes of use. Not sure why this is, but we are going to try to find replacements. However, the mirror light source works well too, but must be used during the day.

Horrible! Bought this for my daughter to help her interest grow and she is more frustrated (along with me) than anything. Terrible light / mirror - bulb goes off if you breathe on it wrong. Can't focus sharply on anything. Useless. Don't waste your money or time.

I bought this for Xmas for my 10 year old granddaughter. Not only does she love it, but her 3 sisters, ages 7 through 14, also have been loving it. The kit comes with everything you need to start discovering, except for batteries. After looking at scrapings from under their finger nails, they don't bite them anymore. Disgusting but effective in breaking a bad habit.

We bought this microscope as our son's first, and are utterly disappointed with it! The quality of the optics are extremely low, and are in fact so low as to render it useless. The light doesn't function at all. This item is barely useful as a prop/toy - don't waste your money.

You get what you pay for. This is a toy, not an instrument to encourage and/or teach a child about science. I'd categorize it with the toy doctor kits on the market. If your child is really interested in microscopy, then get something with decent optics(glass) and a bit more heft(metal). I'm really surprised that Meade, a leading optics manufacturer, endorses this product. It's the reason I bought it.

This item is of poor quality. The light source is poorly designed and does not operate in the described manner. The optics were poor and scratched. The included instruments were toys, not useful, especially the scaple which was dull and would not cut a specimen. I was very disappointed with the entire package..

I expected the microscope to be at least functional, but it wasn't. The light would not turn on when turning the mirror (yes, I did put in batteries and the light did work, but not the way it was supposed to). Very difficult to focus through the eyepiece.

I returned it.

Since Xmas, my boy (9 years) is playing with it all the time, he sleeps with it next to him. It is a really good gift.

I bought this for my wife, because she rarely had the opportunity to use a microscope in school as a kid. The microscope works well enough, although I suppose personally I was expecting incredible magnification. I guess I was expecting too much at this price point. The one major downside is that the magnification piece is a little loose (at least on ours), giving the impression the microscope is on the flimsy side. A kid using this may damage it easily if not careful.

The set itself is a pretty good one, including a lot of pieces and a nice carrying case. I'd recommend it, albeit cautiously. For the money, it's pretty good.
