Product Description

From the Manufacturer

This Next Generation telescope incorporates an advanced industrial design yielding a striking, ultra modern appearance. Large, precision-bearing surfaces provide smooth manual motions in both altitude and azimuth. Locate all of the major planets, view deep space, and observe land objects up close.

Terrestrial Observing
The Meade NG-60 Altazimuth Refractor also makes an excellent land-view instrument for the bird watcher, the naturalist, or for the home with a view.

All of the major planets except Pluto are easily observable through the NG-60. Study Saturn and its ring system, the primary cloud belts of Jupiter as well as its four major satellites, the Moonlike phases of Mercury and Venus, prominent features on Mars, and the starlike images of the distant planets Uranus and Neptune. The Moon stands out in stark, almost three-dimensional detail--craters, mountain ranges, and fault lines. In our galaxy the telescope displays hundreds of nebulae, star clusters, double and multiple stars, and variable stars--plus dozens of external galaxies are visible.

What's in the Box
Meade TeleStar NG-60 Refracting Telescope complete with coated, achromatic objective lens (D=60mm, F=700mm f11.7) mounted in aluminum tube assembly; rack-and-pinion focuser; altazimuth single arm mounting; Meade StarNavigator PC-compatible astronomical software with database of over 10,000 celestial objects; adjustable aluminum tripod and accessory tray; 5x24 viewfinder with rubber eyecup; diagonal mirror (1.25-inch); two eyepieces (1.25-inch, MA25mm and MA9mm); operating instructions.

4.0 out of 5 stars great starter scope, March 23, 2010
This review is from: Meade Instruments TeleStar NG-60 Refracting Telescope (Electronics)
If you're looking to buy this scope then you are most likely a first time telescope buyer. What to expect: You will be able to see the moon and craters in full detail on nights when the moon is shadowed. Jupiter will appear to be a white dot with smaller white dots. Saturn will be a small yellow dot with ears if you look closely. Star clusters look amazing (look at Orian's knee cap and Pleiads). Mars looks like a red dot and Venus is a blue dot. If you're expecting Hubble images than forget even buying a telescope; not possible. If you're looking to have a universal and humbling experience then fork over the whopping 60$. The mount works okay but is very fragile; I broke mine and have to use a c-clamp to keep it steady now :( Optics are pretty good on a clear night. This thing is hella fun.
