This is the replacement for the Honeywell product, updated somewhat, but still the same re-branded Hideki special. The Meade replacement is much easier to set than the Honeywell, and the Honeywell can use the Meade's remotes, no surprise. Still good for what it offers and a very attractive price, though the Many icons are just too tiny to be of much use. The numbers and forecast ARE easy to read.

Honeywell TE653ELW Portable Barometric Weather Forecaster

Hideki TE653ELW Complete Weather Station/Forecaster with Atomic Clock, Indoor/Outdoor Temperature, Humidity & Barometric Pressure

UPDATE 09/2013 (three years use): Please do yourself the favor of using lithium batteries to power both the main unit and the remote. Many quirky issues disappear entirely, and the batteries last over a year (in my case), and yes, I use the backlight a lot. Remote lith batteries are over 24mo and counting, no disconnects or drops, lowest recorded temp -18 deg F (and lets face it, anything below -10 is 'honey, we don't need it that bad).

This unit is accurate, but has many flaws. Several of the icons on the display are too small to comfortably see. Also, programming the unit and accessing many features requires multiple button pushes, and is not at all intuitive. The owners manual is not very helpful.

I have always been interested in the weather and now that I am both a fisherman and a gardener, weather is even more important to me. I have had a lot of weather stations over the years and this one is exactly what I needed. It provides me not only indoor weather conditions but also outdoor information. I use this to monitor the temperature and humidity in my greenhouse that is in the back yard. The great features of this station is that you can setup alarms for minimum and maximum temperatures. This information is very important to gardeners. The other great feature is that the display is small and fits on my desk without taking up too much room. Last and most important is it was easy to setup. Other stations I have took me hours to get the remote sensors to sync with the base unit and would more than once loose sync. This device, I just put the batteries in and it was working. Would recommend this station to others.

Have had this item for about one month. It works great. Love being able to compare the indoor and outdoor humidity and temperature.

This is a great weather station. It comes with one remote sensor but it syncs up with my old Honeywell sensors from a different weather station (Most likely made by the same manufacturer). The display is informative but busy with all the numbers on it.

All I really wanted was a way to read the temperature outside, but the extra features are nice, including barometric pressure in a choice of three different units with a bar chart to show whether it is rising or falling, and an accurate clock, including day/date. The humidity reading should be good for the summer. It is quite a trick to get all of the settings (time zone, pressure system, local altitude, etc) right. It would be better if it were more straightforward or there were buttons specifically for doing these settings. But I have a technical background and managed to figure it out. You really need to read the instructions for this, though, especially the part about syncing the outside box with the inside box. Even the order in which you put in the batteries in the two units is important. If you are not tech savvy, get a nerd friend to help.

Patience is a good thing with this device. Reading the instructions helps to set your expectations. For example, the automatic clock setting function happens three times in the middle of the night because the radio reception is better then. Given this information, I decided to manually set the clock to keep it from trying during day, which would not be good unless you live close to Colorado, where the transmitter is. Sometimes the connection to the outside sensor goes away, and you don't get a reading for a while. I am guessing this is because of radio interference at the time the connection is made. Since the outside sensor is only read every few minutes (not continuously) patience is again a virtue, because it does come back a few minutes later.

In a normally lit room, the display is fine from a few feet away. In a dimly lit room, not so much, and the back light is really only good when the room is dark.

I had this product for over a week before requesting an RMA with Amazon on it. There were several issues with the unit.

First Impression, I was disappointed at the size of the unit. It just looked like it would be bigger than it was from the pictures. You will not be able to easily see the details on the display if it isn't within 3-4 feet. It would work well on a desk, but not so good for wall mounting and viewing from a distance. It's a lot like my home thermostat digital control. I can kind-of see it from a distance, but you really need to be up close for you to see what's really going on.

The remote unit has a small LCD display that shows temp and humidity, so it's handy to place it outside where you can see it, There are four small screws holding the battery cover on, with a rubber seal as well. So that was good.

I installed batteries in the "base" and the remote unit. They connected quickly, but the remote temp was always off by several degrees and humidity was off too. Even if they were sitting next to each other in the same room. I checked the readings with my older AcuRite 00973-RX that I use in the office, and the remote was showing the same values. I'm guessing the "base" was off.

The controls were funky, most of these units are a little weird in that way (Including my AcuRite), but not too big of a problem.

The biggest problem is that the Atomic Clock never set the time. I tried different locations inside and outside of the house and nothing. After a few days I gave up. Just as a test, I pulled the batteries from my AcuRite and re-set it to see how long it took to re-sync the time. Less than 10 mins later, it was updated.

I can't say anything bad about the outside remote.
