Biography

The child of a piano-teacher mother and a bass-playing father, Meaghan Smith devoured old musicals and animated films as a child, and later fell in love with the jazz and big-band music of the '20s, '30s, and '40s. Those early inspirations influenced the timeless quality of the music on her first EP, The Cricket's Quartet, which The Washington Post has called "tart" and "snappy" and "one of the best finds of late '08." Meaghan spent 2009 touring North America (with Sarah McLaughlin, Ron Sexsmith, Eric Hutchinson, Joe Purdy) and with NY & LA residencies, as well as the UK (Jules Holland tour). In 2010 Meaghan will tour Canada & US & will do select dates on the Lilith Fair.

Smith has already found success in the area of film and television-her rendition of the Pixies classic "Here Comes Your Man" (produced by T-Bone Burnett) was recently featured on the acclaimed film (500) Days of Summer. A music video for the song premiered February 5 on AOL Spinner. Additionally, two original songs from her new album The Cricket's Orchestra, "A Piece For You" and "5 More Minutes," have been included in episodes of "One Tree Hill" and "Grey's Anatomy."
