Review

"Quicker than you can pop the top off a bottle of tamper-proof ibuprofen, you can find a delicious recipe to boost your health in Meals That Heal. The recipes are designed to demystify why certain foods are especially nutritious choices for helping common health problems. I loved the "quick" labeled recipes-- they're fast, fun, and tasty."--Susan Learner Barr, M.S., R.D., senior editor, Self magazine

"Meals That Heal shows you how to use whole foods to prepare simple, delicious dishes that can cure common maladies, fight off chronic disease, and help you maintain good overall health. It's the best food for whatever ails you."--Susan McQuillan, M.S., R.D., author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Losing Weight and former food editor, American Health magazine

5.0 out of 5 stars The only cookbook you may ever need!, December 19, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Meals That Heal: Over 175 Simple, Everyday Recipes That Help Prevent And Treat Disease (Hardcover)
This is such a fabulous cookbook that it is one of the few I have left in my kitchen. I am a women's health care nurse practitioner and am very interested in the way nutrition and diet affects health. This book is right-on by recommending a varied diet, rich in whole grains, vegetables, fish, etc. It doesn't limit any type of food and includes meat dishes and desserts. My favorite is the soup section, full of easy-to-make and delicious comfort foods (the pasta e fagiole soup is excellent). I am a fan of Dr. Andrew Weil's books and this cookbook is an excellent accompaniment to his diet and lifestyle advice (better than the cookbook he co-authored this year). The authors also include up-to-date information on the importance of eating omega-3 fatty acids, which many books leave out even though it is so important (for more on this read the excellent "The Omega Diet" by Dr. Artemis Simopoulos). This book does not advise skimping on fat either...it just emphasizes eating healthy fats. This book deserves a spot in everyone's kitchen!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Tasty Addition to Modern Medicine, February 9, 2006
This review is from: Meals That Heal: Over 175 Simple, Everyday Recipes That Help Prevent And Treat Disease (Hardcover)
Out of all of the books I have seen in the "home remedy" category, this is one of the few that actually gives you recipes and examples of how to use the various foods and herbs to help treat different ailments. I originally ran across this book in a bargain bin at a discount store when shopping with my mother. She wound up with it and I with another book. After reading through it one day I found it was well worth the $4 she spent and decide I had to have a copy. Amazon Ho!! The layout is easy to read and wonderful to quickly find a tasty home remedy for a wide variety of aliments. Good Job Anne Egan!

My daughter and I love this cookbook. Every week we set aside a few hours, pick a recipe, double it, feed our friends and freeze the rest. Makes for an excellent lunch at work! The food is really healthy and REALLY GOOD. The soups and stews freeze well, so we can eat healthy all week!
