Mean Case of the Blues, my review from Barcelona, September 6, 2007
This review is from: Mean Case of the Blues (Audio CD)
Really I like EDDY "THE CHIEF" CLEARWATER very much in spite of touch of soul in some of his songs like "LOVE BEING LOVED BY YOU", however this record, MEAN CASE OF THE BLUES, is a good record with a very good composition, vocal and guitar interpretation, his guitar attack comes from his mentors Freddie King, Luther Allison and Magic Sam with typical West-Side sound.
Eddy Clearwater has just come down with a Mean Case Of The Blues but don't panic, that's the best news imaginable for the venerable Chicago Blues veteran's legion of fans (Bill Dahl).
There are magnificent songs like a rock'n'roll number "PARTY AT MY HOUSE" gets a terrific revival, some funky with "HARD WAY TO MAKE AN EASY LIVING", the sensible slow Blues "DON'T TAKE MY BLUES" the title track "MEAN CASE OF THE BLUES" a R&B absolutely superb, covers of Nat king Cole's "SEND FOR ME" and Gene Allison's "YOU CAN'T MAKE IT IF YOU TRY" that would have could be better but they are well, while Samuel Maghett's "LOOK WATCHA DONE" gets a higher level. In short words I like more others Clearwater's registrations but this is good. I give it 3,5 stars.
