Review
Chrystine Julian approaches varied topics with courage and finesse, aspects fitting of a great poet. She defends the freedoms we love and champions some extraordinary ones, too. Every page is accessible and clear as she challenges us to develop our own intuitions and insights. My advice is to try it on, read, and then look in the mirror. Chances are, you won't see yourself in quite the same way. --Nancy Krieg, American poet and musician
I recently picked up a copy of 'Meandering Mindfulness' by Chrystine Julian. And though I ve only had it a short time, it already has the look of a worn out favorite. 'Meandering Mindfulness' is a collection of poems 'from the place where wander and wonder merge.' The poems range from contemplative, frustrated and despairing to humorous, witty and hopeful. When I read her words, I am reminded of a mystic who has experienced the ecstasy and bliss of being connected to the Divine, and the Shamaness who has experienced the stabbing pain of separation. Chrystine gives voice to our collective hopes and fears. We have all felt misunderstood and regretful. We have felt loss. We have dwelt on mistakes and lost opportunities. There are 71 poems in all which fall under the headings 'She,' 'Sort of Silly,' 'Love,' 'Rights and Responsibilities,' 'Spirit,' and 'Alone.' 'The Dreamer' is one of my favorite poems, and speaks to me of the deep connection we have to the Divine, and how deeply loved we are even when we forget. --Deanna Joseph, Inspiration Editor, BellaOnline.com
Chrystine Julian's poems carve out a space for themselves...one surprising slice at a time. Even the short pieces are mighty in meaning and insight. From the very few lines that embody a world view of trees to the vulnerability of passion and love, Chrystine manages to touch the heart, and intrigue the mind. I highly recommend her lovely book of poetry, 'Meandering Mindfulness.' --Ruth Light, Women's National Book Association
