Abandoned!

My name's Freddie. I'm a fluffy white dog -- well-bred, well-mannered. Not the kind of pet you expect to find on the road. But that's exactly what happened when my boy's daddy dumped me near a junkyard, with no place to hide. The rain was cold. I was miserable, scared, lonely -- and so hungry I could have eaten almost anything. The junkyard is where I met Spike (Junkyard Dog in Training) -- and Tiger, the real junkyard dog....

Who could have guessed that I, fluffy Freddie, would engineer the great escape for my newfound friend, Spike? Or that all we went through, to find our freedom, would be threatened when Tiger's evil master sets out to hunt us down? Or that we'd need the help of the Meanest Hound Around to protect our new friends?

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 2-4-A story to melt the heart of the most reluctant reader, this tale features Freddie, an appealing canine narrator who tells of being loved by his boy, but abandoned by his boy's father. Wet, miserable, cold, and frightened, he comes upon a junkyard run by two bullies, one human and one canine. He befriends Spike, forced to be a watchdog there, helps him escape, and the two begin a series of encounters with hostile geese and ferocious coyotes before finding a happy home. The plot unfolds at a steady pace, and the ample dialogue lends immediacy to the story. Black-and-white illustrations, one or two per chapter, capture some of the canines' terrifying adventures and the tale's joyful resolution. For early readers who like animal stories, this one is a good choice.

A Kid's Review
This was the first book I read by Bill Wallace. It was a great book! I read it with my cousin, and we'd read it each day on the way to Bible School! I recommend it! And if you like this book, you'll probably like "Watchdog and The Coyotes", too!

The Meanest Hound Around

By Bill and Carol Wallace Illustrated by John Steven Gurney

Freddie is a fluffy white dog that was abandoned by his boy`s dad. Then he meets Spike (a junkyad dog in training who is afraid of cats). He helps Spike escape from the junkyard and the evil canine Tiger (the strongest and scariest dog you will ever meet) and Roy (the wost human in the world). Then they have to travel far away.

Along the way they have some exiting adventures. On the first one they must face off against coyotes. Then they face off evil geese. Then they finally find hosts, hosts who already have Jake (being a Bird Dog), Ding (being an old black dog), and Biff and Barkie (who happen to be puppy Pugs). Will these hosts welcome them or do they already have enough dogs? Read this book to find out!

I gave this book a 5 star ***** rating and I recommend this book to poeple who like exiting animal books.
