The final offensive offensive,
By Paul Lawrence "'EJL'" (Australia) - See all my reviews

Monty Pythons feature films were always in posession of more biting societal observations that their television shows and while this runs the danger of being topical and not timeless, the Python boys managed it in their three 'proper' movies. That tendency is also borne out in the soundtracks to those films, from the Constitutional Peasant skit from Holy Grail to the crucifixion scene in Life of Brian.
Here, on the plain jane version (part of the Virgin Chattering Classics series) the comedy is in full swing with insanity like the Accountancy Shanty and the more pointed Every Sperm Is Sacred number which succeeds on pretty much every level from comedy, dance number and social commentary. Luckily this CD comes with the original liner notes from the LP release which do add to the experience. Lastly I must point out that while I've given this four stars you will probably only get this level of enjoyment out of it if you've seen the film and liked it, and want to be able to listen to skits from the flick at your leisure at times when you may not be able to put on the DVD. If your a total Monty Python newbie I'd recommend you get the double CD The Final Rip Off which is essentially an anthology best of sort of release.

If you are Monty Python fan, this has to be the best ever!
Even the music is good. Not for the faint of heart, though. A masterpiece! |
