5.0 out of 5 stars ComiCat on Kindle Fire December 24, 2011
Verified Purchase
I have a large collection of digital comics and a new Kindle Fire, so I decided to try this program to see how nicely my comics displayed. I was a bit worried about readability because of the size of the Kindle Fire screen, but it turns out that my comics were completely and easily readable, due to the Kindle's high resolution screen. Plus, if I needed a zoom-in, I only had to turn the Fire to landscape position, and the comics automatically turned into a closeup (I have the view set to width of screen). This app has a ton of options, so you can customize it to whatever you like best. To upload my comics, I simply connected the Fire to my PC via a USB cable, created a new folder called "comic books" on the Fire's internal memory and drag-n-dropped them in. Comicat scanned for new comics, found them and displayed them on its bookshelf. I only had problems opening and viewing one file, and I think it might have been corrupted by the transfer, or maybe in too high a resolution. I'll have to experiment and re-upload it, but it was just one file out of about sixty or seventy transfered comics. Not a big deal. No app is really perfect, but this one was very satisfactory to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for comics and childrens books! November 23, 2011
Verified Purchase
I have only had this app for a couple hours, but I already love it! It is perfect for all my cbr and cbz files. Comics are great on my Kindle Fire. I can put the whole page on screen, or zoom in and crop around if I really wanted to.
The thing that escalated this to 5 stars for me is the multiple view options. With some children's story books I have, I am able to view two pages at once, which is great since many of the pictures are done across both pages; and with adjusting it to read in landscape mode, the picture is not too small at all.

Highly recommended app for anyone with cbr or cbz files that they want to read on their device!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great comic reader. November 24, 2011
Verified Purchase
This is a great comic reader. It would be perfect if it recognized all my cbr files. However it fails to locate certain files even when they are in the same collection. This is annoying and I hope there is a fix soon.
Update: I was told that the file issue might be because of incorrect extensions. I looked at every file which was not being read and changed them from cbr to cbz and vice versa. I don't know why it worked, but it did. All my comics work well now. Thank you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Reader, Great Service April 15, 2013
Verified Purchase
Comicat is a perfect reader for all of my scans. It looks great, feels great, and is very easy to use. You CAN organize your comics into folders (presumably by title, so all Superman, Batman, etc. are in separate folders) despite what other reviewers have said. Additional levels of folders would be a welcome addition (i.e. "Ultimate Spiderman" and "Amazing Spiderman" within the overarching "Spiderman" folder) but since I don't want to fill up the limited HD space anyway, it's not really a problem.

I had a problem with one of my scans not syncing properly and emailed support describing the problem. They responded the same day and helped me get the file syncing properly (the problem was on my end.) The support staff seems to be very helpful, and if you are looking for a reason to choose Comicat over other readers such as Perfect Viewer, the customer support is reason enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great cbr or cbz reader November 23, 2011

I am using this on my Kindle Fire. Works great and looks awesome.

Kindle Fire + ComiCat is a great combination for my needs.

The only thing that could make it better for me would be pinch to zoom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Comic Reader for Kindle Fire January 9, 2012
Verified Purchase
This app has every feature I want from a comic reader and really works well on the Kindle Fire. The frequent updates are fantastic, as well.

After experimenting with all the options, I have found these settings make the most of the Fire's screen size:

-Reading with the Fire held horizontally, not vertically, and keeping the default option of "fit to width" that kicks in whenever you hold it this way. Reading with the Fire upright is just a tad bit too small for comics. This method is closest to replicating Guided View from comiXology, though it does require a good bit of scrolling.

-Crop Margins. With the limited size of the screen, this cuts out the unessential blocks of white surrounding the images without zooming in too much and causing blur. (definitely do this if you plan on reading with the Fire held upright)

-Keep Splits. The default setting separates two-page splashes as two separate pages. I found changing it to one image works best in horizontal mode.

5.0 out of 5 stars You can never go wrong with this app December 12, 2011
By gaba
Great app! Fresh and neat interface which is very intuitive and user friendly. I primarily chose it because of the password protection as my kids often use my tab and I don't want them to accidentally open my comics that are not intended for kids. Much better than the oldies available on the android store. It reads everything with ease and the gestures work perfectly as I expect them to. Kudos to Mean Labs, can't be happier with my purchase.

Will it work on the new Fire HDX 8.9"?
J. Grubb, Comicat shows up for me on the HDX 8.9 now. It's likely that if it's not showing up for you your Fire is caching some old information somehow. You might try going to the Amazon App store on the web and trying to tell it from there to send it to your device.

Where to buy digital comics to use with this app?
Comixology has some that are DRM free that you can download and use with ComiCat (not Marvel or DC, tho - but they have a TON of other stuff, too), and you can get some from other publishers at DriveThru Comics, though those are typically PDFs. You can convert a PDF to CBZ if you are willing to... Read More
