This review is from: Man of Means (Silhouette Desire) (Paperback)
I have to disagree with most of the reviews written below. I believe this book was great. I'm also a big Diana Palmer fan and ive read my share of her stories. I think this one was sweet and both characters were strong, unlike other stories where the woman is incredibly fragile and weak.
Meredith lives a life who could break anyone if they werent strong enough, yet she is able to hold herself up without help. She even hides her real education as a nurse and accepts to live out in a tiny city. This time, the reader wasnt always being reminded of how innocent she was, how fragile, etc. This time she actually had a strong personality. Rey is just like the other men in Palmer's stories...hes stubborn, "sexy", has his mind set on thinking the female is a "tramp", and does not want to get married. There wasnt really a change in the male character, so no big thing there. But, a good character overall. Overall i think this story is great for so many reasons. If you want a different story, with strong characters, this one is the one. I think the only thing that i agree on with the previous reviews is that you dont do CPR on someone who is alive....but you kind of overlook that since its not a medical text. However, correct information would have been nice.

Getting a bit tired,
By A Customer
This review is from: Man of Means (Silhouette Desire) (Paperback)
I have to agree with the other reviewers. I did like the first few pages with their introduction of D.P.'s typical characters, like the hero who misjudges and hurts the already wounded heroine, and then has to do some serious grovelling before the happy ending. It sort of was there, and it wasn't. I had the impression Ms. Palmer got bored herself after the first chapters and just hurriedly threw together a few clichés - minor misunderstandings, dream wedding, passionate wedding night, all in too much of a rush - in order to finish off the book. The main characters appeared rather more shallow towards the end, not fulfilling the promise shown in the beginning. This is now about the third or fourth new Palmer novel I have read which left me rather unsatisfied. Couldn't publishers be persuaded to give us some of her older (and better) ones instead?

True Diana Palmer fans will enjoy,
By kat8me (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Man of Means (Silhouette Desire) (Paperback)
Let me start the review out by saying I am a huge Diana Palmer fan. I started out reading her romances and was hooked. I have to say though that lately her books are becoming stale, this one included. This book is part of a line of books, of which the first of the Hart's stories was EXCELLENT. Diana's characters are becoming cliches, all the women are the same, the men as well. Her personal beliefs are coming through too much as well, such as her political feelings. This book is more of the same. Her loyal fans will love it, but it will leave many readers looking for more.

NOT ONE OF DIANA PALMERS BEST,

I am an avid Diana Palmer fan. I have to say, I was alittle disappointed with this book. The romance in the story was pretty good, but toward the last part of the book I started getting bored. I hate to say that about a Diana Palmer book but this is not one of her best. I did like Reys character and Meredith was sweet but for some reason I just couldn't get to interested. Not a bad book. I would wait and check it out in the library before I would spend money on it.

Long time Palmer fan wonders who now writes,
By A Customer
This review is from: Man of Means (Silhouette Desire) (Paperback)
I have read Diana Palmer from the beginning and eagerly await each book that she publishes. This last one as well as the last few have truly paled in comparison to her older works. This books seems like it was written by an amateur and I really had to ask myslef as I pushed myself to finish the book (after throwing it down many times) if someone else was writing. I know of many famous authors who get famous and the quality of their writing declines in order to crank out books for deadlines but this book had none of Palmer's old style. The male of the book, Rey is truly un-likeable and his arrogrant attitude towards the woman is terrible. The reasoning for his being sour on women seems flimsy and I basically did not like him. I know Palmer's men are always very hard and can seem cold but they always deeply love the woman in the book but I did not see that at all in this book. Rey did not seem to love her and was dead against being with her therefore the ending of them getting together did not seem natural or love-inspired. All in all, I will not buy another Palmer book from now on. I was sad to lost yet another old time favorite author.

I like to start off by saying I am a big "Diana Palmer"fan too.But during this book it seemed like she wasnt putting her all into it.I would have expected a much better ending than the one she gave.I agree with the others,it did seem like she just wanted to hurry up and finish it.

better than her past few stories...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Man of Means (Silhouette Desire) (Paperback)
I was very reluctant to buy this book because the last few I had purchased were not very good. I read this book last night and I found myself interested and unable to put it down. I have always enjoyed reading about the Hart brothers and Rey did not disappoint me. At first he came off as arrogant and high handed but he has reasons to be so because of the past. It also appears that Ms. Palmer has finally created a heroine who is believable and although "virginal" is not some mis-informed female who knows nothing about the world. Meredith is a professional woman who is feisty and can stand her own against Rey. I almost feel that Diana has been reading some of the reviews others have posted about her books and really took a hard look at making some changes with her characters and plotlines because this book is far better than her last few.

Need to learn CPR,
By Marjorie Williams (Plant City, FL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Man of Means (Silhouette Desire) (Paperback)
Diana, Please learn basic CPR. It is not done on individuals with a pulse and who are breathing. This is just one of the flaws with this book. The caracters are standard for Diana's, the men tend to be hard, and the women are fragile. But in this book, she goes from fragile to spunky without reason. Perhaps part of Meredith's caracter change was left out of the book to keep it smaller for the Silhouette printing.
