I have used this book in Leadership Training for years. Recently I used it at Gindiri College of Theology in Nigeria. The huge 250 pound student body president said it caused him to weep, thinking about repentance. This was one of the only books graduating senior received this year, because the cost of books is such a high % of their annual income.

3.0 out of 5 stars a bit too short
King is as eloquent as always, and I knew this was a short book, but it was filled with a lot more pictures than I expected and it was more purely theological than connecting theology with his nonviolent philosophy. I'd go for something else if you want to read King.

In the US, white High School students have returned years later to say this small book changed their thinking and understanding of who Dr. King really was. Mine too. Thanks

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, December 5, 2005

Dr. King, as we all know, was a man of intelligence, persistence, devotion, and respect, and this book inspires all of those qualities in each of us. I have purchased this book for family members, and they have received its message with the same delight that I did. I highly suggest reading this or buying as a gift for a friend in need of a little inspiration.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enlightening and Refreshing, November 23, 2004

This writing was quite interesting. Dr. King as we all know was a great man and leader. In this writing he points out a great way to look at the world, and all human beings within this world. Throughout this writing he speaks of God and how God is the way. A very enlightening piece of reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars King the Theologian, January 10, 2006
By
Before reading this short book I had a limited appretiation for Martin Luther King Jr. I only revered him for his social action and not for his theology. Now I realize his elequance as a theologian. This quick-read is life changing and is an amazing perspective on humanity and the nature of his exsistence

5.0 out of 5 stars Eloquence, August 9, 2000

This review is from: The Measure of a Man (Hardcover)
What an amazing man. King writes with such love for humanity and such desire for an improved society. Though I am not religious, I am very engaged by his discussions of faith. It is this thesis of the role of humanity and the notion of how precious life is that draw me to this book every few months for inspiration.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thoughts Beyond Measure, March 30, 2008

This pocket-style book written in 1959 contains two short inspirational, philosophical and theological thoughts of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. King begins his introspection by revealing his answer to the question, What is Man? He follows this with his thoughts on the three dimensions of a complete life: length, breadth and height. Naturally, both points are deeply rooted in theology but you feel as if each is just a brief introduction to a much larger context.

4.0 out of 5 stars Small and Handy, August 7, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Small and slim, fits in the back of pants pockets just fine.

About 50-pages, with 10 or so pages in the middle solely having various photographs of King and followers.

I read it in about 15mins, taking my time.

Buy it used for the best deal. Paying full price for something so small that could probably be downloaded off the internet seems a bit much.

It is very thought-provoking, as all of King's work, and is worth reading. Would make a great gift for anyone.

I recommend "A Testament of Hope: The Essential Writings and Speeches of Martin Luther King, Jr." for a more complete work of Dr. King.

I expected this book to be thicker and have more of the writings of Dr. King. Other than being disappointed in the length I was very pleased with this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars To give this as a gift to every young man..., April 6, 2007
By
This is an excellent and treasurable little gift book to give to young people. While simple and humble at first glance, it gives some deep truths about life and how we can live responsibly. I've given copies of this to others, hoping that somewhere along their path in life they might open it and find just what they need to make good and true decisions in their lives and dealings with others. I hope it will never go out of print!
