4.5 Stars from Literary Nymph Reviews Only

"Ms. Blackthorne did a good job with the period background, while giving a peak into the scandalous part of the Regency time period... I am looking forward to reading more of this series." ~ Amazon Nymph, May 16, 2012

More About the Author

Escape into the past with intensely erotic, emotionally driven love stories. Natasha Blackthorne writes character-focused historical erotica romance featuring strong internal conflicts played out in non-traditional and unconventional situations. Her stories are most frequently about the intimate journey of the characters as they learn to open their hearts to love.

Her heroines are not perfect ladies. They are wildflowers and wallflowers who enjoy flirting with the forbidden. Whether they are bold or shy, her heroines' strong desires and deep emotions drive the plot and drive their heroes to the point of no return.

"I haven't been disappointed with a Natasha Blackthorne historical romance as of yet...the men, yes..they are strong and dominant, but they also support their women in everything. These men are written with strength and purpose... Thank you Natasha for helping me love historical romance once again." ~ Salacious Reads

"Natasha Blackthorne has become one of my favorite authors, I love her wonderfully sweet, strong, terribly damaged characters." ~ Kimberly, a reader.

Anne Bourchier, Lady Cranfield, has a crippling secret she's trying to hide from the world. That is until she meets Jonathan Lloyd, Earl of Ruel. In Jonathan, she sees a possible solution to her problem, if only she has the courage to trust in him.

Trust is a big issue in this book, as with many romance novels. But in this case, this Regency-period tale takes it a step further, into a place many people wonder about but are a little afraid of: BDSM.

The BDSM and Anne's introduction to submission are handled very well. It is generally realistic and compelling. We are drawn into the personalities of the characters and want to see them work out their needs, both as independent beings and as a couple.

The pace, setting, and plot development for this novel were well done. I found the characters to be well-rounded and believable. It was a very enjoyable book and I have no reservation about giving it a 5-star rating. Get yourself a copy and get ready to be transported.

A Measured Risk by Natasha Blackthorne is a beautiful and captivating historical erotic romance that will carry you away to Regency Era England and into the life of a young woman who is crippled by fear and has closed herself off from the world.

I very highly recommend this book! The author took me away to another time and place, with a story that completely consumed me. I was lost in Regency Era England and did not want to come back to reality. I adored both Lady Cranfield and the Earl of Ruel.

I am hopelessly in love with the Earl of Ruel and I don't care if he's a fictional character! Experience the elegant, and frequently excessive life of the privileged during this romantic era. This story is a bit different than other Regency Era stories you have probably read. The heat level is high and the story has a bit of a twist that makes it fresh and unique. I still don't want to leave the world of Lady Cranfield and the Earl of Ruel.

I've been wanting to read Ms Blackthorne's books for a while and this is the first one I have had the opportunity to read. I was expecting a great read, but it totally exceeded my expectations! I have become an instant fan of her writing and I cannot wait to get my hands on more of her books. If you like historical fiction and enjoy erotic romance, then I strongly encourage you to check out her books!

Like Natasha Blackthorne's other historical romance, a Measured Risk isn't your ordinary bodice ripper...why? Because these chicks are taking off theirs off eagerly and that is not a bad thing at all. Still an erotic romance, A Measured Risk is more BDSM. Our female lead Anne is submissive and Jon, our male lead is of course the dominant.

Lady Anne Cranfield has lost her husband in a terrible carriage accident and is now emotionally scarred. Whereas she use to love being around horses, she now has a terrible type of phobia around both horses and carriages because of the accident; she is now physically trapped living with her husband's cousin and wife. On a day she decides to take a walk towards the stables, she comes across the Earl of Ruel, Jon and is totally taken away with his strength. She senses something in him and un-wittily agrees to have him teach her to overcome her fears in exchange for her total submission.

Jon, Earl of Ruel is totally taken away with Lady Cranfield as well. He's always been attracted to her dark beauty and couldn't understand why she was married to her husband, as in his opinion they weren't properly matched. He knew Anne was submissive, but trying to get her to actually submit was a fight he wasn't quite prepared for.

I loved everything about this story, it was so good. But want I loved most was Jon patience with Anne. He was a strong male lead and very dominant, but his patience with her was just...I can't even explain it. I mean just reading this story, you knew this man as dominant as he was, was falling in love with this woman.
Anne was submissive to Jon in the bedroom, but she fought him outside of it. And I could understand that. She grew up with parents who were never around...raised by her nanny.

I love my historicals. I love my BDSM erotica reads. And damn putting the two together? *girly swoon* I really enjoyed A Measured Risk. It was fresh, steamy, emotional and just a heart touching romance between two very unique characters.

The gist is that after being traumatized and left a widow in a carriage accident Anne has suffered from severe PTSD ad hasn't bee able to leave her home. She's fascinated by Ruel who is visiting, seems fearless and embraces life and can't resist his offer to help her take control of her life back--by spending a month with him as his submissive.

Anne was a heroine that I think, on the surface, many people may write off for being weak and grating--lord knows that's how most of the people in her life treat her-- but I thought she was a wonderful heroine and rather complex. She's socially awkward and can seem cold because of it, is fixated on philosophy and understanding everything, and has been left emotionally broken. I really felt for her and all of her struggles and loved watching her with Ruel. There were some crazy emotional scenes that had me chocking up as she worked through her fears.

Now, Ruel. Yum. He was totally rocking the dom mode. He likes being in control, is jaded about marriages for love and embraces the hell out of his debauched life but Anne has set his world on a spin and really tests everything he's held firm to for so long. I liked seeing him lose control of himself and getting all flustered over her. He's far from perfect and, well, a couple times he really needed a smack down but he had so many qualities that made me love his character. I really liked that he doesn't mind hard work--mucking stalls, chopping wood, etc. And that he defends and cares for Anne even when he's having 'moments' of assery.
