Book Description

Intended for physiotherapists, occupational therapists and students, this book examines the measurement of joint motion. Range-of-motion tables presenting the ROM needed for the performance of functional activities are included for all the joints. Range-of-motion tables comparing average ROM from various researches are also included for all joints, and appear next to the joint being tested. Arthro-kinematics, osteokinematics, and capsular patterns are given for the joints. The coverage of recording has been clarified and expanded, including the SFTR recording method, and a variety of recording forms are given to familiarize the student with a representative sampling of forms in current use. The illustrations of starting and finishing positions, as well as of stabilization, aim to help students to visualize the complete procedure. The chapter on reliability and validity has been expanded and includes a review of recent literature, and features exercises designed to teach the student to perform the necessary calculations for determining inter- and intra-tester reliability. Numerous exercises break down the learning process and reinforce the acquisition of good, careful technique.

5.0 out of 5 stars Invaluable, October 29, 2000

This review is from: Measurement of Joint Motion: A Guide to Goniometry (Spiral-bound)
I got an earlier edition of this book in Physical Therapy school and it was invaluable in teaching the finer points of goniometry. I constantly used it as a source of information, until I became comfortable with measuring joint range of motion. Since I am now working in the inpatient arena, I mostly repeatedly measure knees, but refer back to it when I need to brush up on another joint. It has clear pictures and overall is a great reference book for anyone who has to evaluate joint ranges of motion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, April 5, 2010
This book is a great guide to goniometry. I especially love the Appendix that has all the normal values. It's a must have for anyone starting out in physical therapy.

This is an excellent as easily describes how to do ROM of all sorts of joints. A great book for a student and practitioner that needs to look up the more obscure joints. It has tables as well for normal ROM. You can't go wrong with this one.
