Book Description

Seventeen-year-old Annabel Conway is tired of the Hillcrest High School elite making her life miserable because she’s not a size two. This summer, she's hiring a personal trainer to help her lose weight.

Annabel doesn’t expect her trainer to be a gorgeous guy around her age. Boys like Tegan are jerks. They pretend to like girls like her so they can make an idiot out of them. Been there, done that. Totally not going there again. She kind of hates him on principal. Blond. Muscular. Funny. It doesn’t help that he knows her measurements!

Soon, Tegan's so much more than that. He’s the boy who teaches her to box when she has a bad day. Who jogs with her and lets her set the pace. Who kisses her until she melts. He makes her feel beautiful regardless of what the scale says. Unlike her mom, he doesn’t expect perfection, and he doesn't try to shield her from the world like her dad and best friend. Tegan likes her the way she is.

But what happens when he’s not there? He can’t always be there…

Will Annabel be able to stand on her own and learn that she already measures up? That her worth doesn’t lie in what the world thinks, the scale says, or even what Tegan tells her—but in herself?

Some mature content including sexual situations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Weightless August 10, 2012

So obviously I am a major fan of Nyrae Dawn, I swear it's like I totally have a girl crush! One of the things I love most about her is the topics she tackles to write about. Each issue in every one of her books is something relatable. She drew me in with WABW and WABN, to totally speechless in Freeing Carter, all to build up to Measuring Up. Yes, Nyrae has a new book out! Girls you have to read it, because at one point, even if you don't admit it, we have all been there. I knew from the moment she gave us a kissy blurb on her blog that I was going to absolutely fall in love and in sync with Annabel.

Annabel Conoway, was teased at school for her weight by everyone but her friend Em. Even her mom indirectly fit into this teasing. She finally decides to do something about it on the sly, not even her best friend knows about it. I mean that's pretty big, us girls tell our BFFs everything, so you know it was really important for her to actually make it through. Annabel shows up at "Let's get Physical," genius name for a gym btw Nyrae, it takes her a few times to actually make it into the gym, but in the process stumbles upon Tegan. She helps him out with his family then walks into the gym to find out the guy she called, gym boy, was her trainer.

Tegan is awesome. He has his own issues to work out, but is able to give Annabel Lee, what he calls her, the, motivation and confidence she needed to work toward her goal. Along the way they end up feeling more for each other than a normal trainer/trainee relationship and Tegan asks Annabel out on a date. I have to admit it was a totally perfect date! OH and the first kiss, fireworks! Of course other things happen but you will have to read that!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Loved It! September 12, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Before I even got to the actual book, the dedication page captured my heart. Truer words were never spoken.

Annabel. I couldn't help but love Annabel. How many of us (especially woman) haven't hated something about ourselves, especially in high school. Whether it was our weight or our height. Our looks, our clothes, what we drove, where we lived, maybe even our family. Being a teenager is a tough time, especially with peer pressure and all the insecurities that come with just being young and trying to find your place in the world.

My heart really went out to her and for her and really for anyone that has ever been in her place before. Her self esteem was pretty much nonexistant and I just wanted to give her a great big hug and tell her she was so much more than outside appearances. And then, I hate to say it, but then, I wanted to smack her mother. What kind of mother does and says those things to their child?
Sadly, I know it happens. Every. Single. Day. And that is just heartbreaking.

Annabel's voice felt so real. I loved her sarcasm, her innocence and her goodness too. And I loved that she was strong, even when she didn't think she was, she was.

Her Dad, gah, I think I love that man! He was just awesome and I was so thankful that she had him as her father. He was everything a father should be to his little girl.

Can I talk about Tegan now? I seriously loved him, more so than I have in a long time with a male protagonist. There were the obvious reasons to like him of course, how good he was, his kindness, how hard he worked for his family, his goodness and yes, the hottness factor too but there were other things too, little things that just added up and made him a really great character.

5.0 out of 5 stars Measuring Up most definitely Measured Up! August 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book has not only become my favorite Nyrae Dawn book, but it is also one of my top 10 favorite books of all time.
What girl can't relate to having insecurities (like being over weight)? And what girl wouldn't want to read a story of a guy who not only doesn't outcast her for her insecurity (like everyone else in her life does) but helps her embrace the true beauty of who she is and what she's capable of. It's am empowering story to say the least.

Annabel (a rising senior in high school) wants to loose some weight. The motivators to loose weight seem endless (mean kids in school, win a guy's affection, appease a mother with high expectations) but the only real motivator she should have is the one for herself. She hires a trainer at a gym to help her loose weight. But that trainer will help her learn she can do it on her own.... and that she should be happy with who she is no matter what crappy influences she has in her life to tell her otherwise.

It just so happen that trainer is also hot. 18 year old Tegan has the level of hotness that would make any girl swoon. But what's amazing on the outside isn't even have as amazing as what's inside. I dare any reader not to like Tegan. Shoot, after reading this I want to have another boy so I can name him Tegan. This book made me fall in love with that name. And side note to the author- Thank you that even though Tegan was a hot 18 year old guy he didn't have a manwhore past.

Nyrae Dawn writes real characters. With real problems. And real dialogue true to their personalities. Witty dialogue. That can make you laugh out loud. And suck you in. And make you want to really know these people. Dawn is most definitely a talented writer. And her books are worth a read. Most especially this one.

I didn't hate it, but it seemed a bit far fetched or overly stereotyped at time. There were some nice real moments in it as well.
