Editorial Reviews

When Hell Spits Out the Dead, it will be the Darkest Day of Terror Humankind has Ever Known! First, in ?Meat Market?, two ex-security agents discover what may be the real cause of what the TV news reports as animal attacks. Argenta (Claire Westby) and Shahrokh (Paul Pedrosa) are former employees of a company they knew to be conducting bizarre medical experiments. What has resulted are not animal attacks, but attacks by humans - turned into vicious, decomposing, cannibalistic zombies. Their efforts to stem the violence in vain, hunted by the authorities, Shahrokh and Argenta escape the city just as it is engulfed by chaos. Their only hope lies in finding and organizing the few remaining survivors. What they find - three vampire women armed with high-tech weaponry, a deranged & washed-up Mexican wrestler, a wounded soldier, and a scientist who may know more than he lets on - offer more questions than answers. These few must band together to defeat the hordes of the undead before they are themselves consumed by the new order! ?Meat Market 2? picks up more than a year after the events of the first movie with the few survivors, Argenta, Nemesis, and others, struggling for survival against the undead in the ruins of what was once society. In their search for a safe haven they come across what appears to be the last refuge of humanity - a fortified compound run by former motivational speaker Bill Wilhelm, and his cult of heavily armed fanatics. But when Argenta is subjected to indoctrination techniques and her comrades imprisoned, she begins to suspect that deep within the compound, more is going on than a simple attempt to 'rebuild'...that Bill and his followers have more than one use for the living and the undead alike...

These two movies are absolutely brilliant pieces of independent film making. They were shot on video in the early 2000s, maybe even the late 1990s, but they're very well done for the time and the little money they were made on. Brian Clement, director of the "Meat Market" films is nothing short of a genius-- but I'll get into that, later.

The first "Meat Market" film is the superior of the two, the second one downplays a lot of the outdoors and urban environments in chaos the first one has instead focusing on heavier character development, but that's okay. The movies are your standard zombie fare, nothing special: the dead rise, eat the living, those bitten turn into zombies. There's a lot of talk about nanotechnology and whatnot in there but what I found the most interesting across both movies was the idea of "vampires versus zombies," I don't want to give too much away, but there are vampires in the film who form an uneasy team with some humans in order to try and make their way across the chaos enveloping the area. The vampires seem to feel threatened by the zombies only because the zombies are making the vampires' "meat market" totally worthless, as the blood of zombies makes them feel kind of sick and it's not as good for them as humans' blood.

Anyway, the stories are irrelevant to this review. Director Brian Clement ingeniously uses every disadvantage a low-budget film-maker runs into as an advantage here. If he doesn't have the budget to show a city in chaos, he simply uses cropped local news footage of the area, of a house fire or a police report-- and it works very well.

I am a Diehard Zombie fan and pretty much own just about all zombie movies, even though this film is low budget the zombies looked decent and for some reason some scenes even reminded me of Lucio Fulci's Zombie which is as far as I am concered the best zombie movie ever made. So sit back grab a plate of Spagetti and Watch the meatballs fly in this low budget zombie flick!!!!

I don't even know why anyone in the world would want to buy this movie. I don't even know why this is available on DVD. People say this is a "fun, B-movie", but trust me, I've never seen a B-movie as bad as this crap, and that's saying a whole lot.

This movie is awful! Here are just SOME of the reasons why:

Styrofoam props.

Cheap make-up effects.

The most unattractive women you've ever seen. So bad you'll fast forward through the lesbian scene, TRUST ME!!

Terrible cinematography.

Virtually no plot.

Gore is no more than puddles of mushed up sausage and raw chicken drumsticks.

Sloppy/homely vampire women acting like men.

Not to mention it's boring as all Hell.

I cannot imagine what 2 and 3 have in store for me. I'm sure I'll have my DVD remote handy for the skip option. I'd rank the cheapness and stupidity up there with zombigeddon and splatter farm.
Not even laughable, just DUMB!!
