Biography

When Ian Siegal received the accolade of MOJO Blues Album of The Year (’09) for his 'Broadside' album, it was the first time for a non-American artist; and when his 2011 album 'The Skinny' was nominated for a Blues Music Award in the contemporary album category, it was the first time ever for a British artist in this category. That he repeated the nomination in 2013 for ... Read more in Amazon's Ian Siegal Store

Editorial Reviews

Brand new album from one of the UK's brightest Blues artists. His new CD and the first on an internationally distributed label, sees Ian returning to his roots: the raw, passionate, urban Blues that fired his early passion for the Blues. It also shows him to be a commanding songwriter in a Muddy Waters-meets-Tom Waits vein. Equally at home sitting on a stool with an old resonator guitar, or fronting his band with Stratocaster in hand, his voice and guitar playing are emotional and powerful. 11 tracks of pure rockin' rollin' British blues. Nugene. 2005.

Meat...this is a good one-especially Bloodshot, Revelator, Mud Pie(which needs to be longer), and Magdalena. Ian was just here June 30th-July 1st at the highway 99 blues club, he was amazing-the growls, the vibe-reminiscent of tom waits-and very provocative live, if he comes back-will see him again, and again, and again.

This cd is awesome. Every song is unique and just plain fun to listen to. My favorite is his growling "Magdalena"....I always have to hear it at least twice in a row. The only song that's keeping this from getting a 5 star rating is "Work," which, for reason, just gets on my nerves, but I can fast forward thru that one & still have 12 excellent songs to listen to. Buy it!!!!

I haven't actually heard the CD yet, but I'm buying it as I write this. My son and I saw Ian perform at the Portland Blues Festival in July and we both liked what we heard. Neither of us were fans of his kind of music, we just stopped by his stage on the way out. However, he is VERY unique and does understand the difference between singing and performing and seems to like his work. That was enough to keep us listening for a while and we found ourselves appreciating his stuff. He is very true to his genre, yet still plays with it in a funny way. He can alter the speed of either the lyrics or the music and still somehow not alter the flow of the song itself. Anyway, we decided we needed to hear more of his stuff.
