5.0 out of 5 stars Open Your Mind to a New Music Experience, May 20, 2000
This review is from: Meat Puppets II (Audio CD)
It has been said this CD is what started the Alternative music classification. If it hasn't been said I am saying now. The diversity of this CD made it impossible to classify it as one type of music, thus starting the Alternative music classification. The effect of this CD on Alternative music became obvious when Nirvana invited the Meat Puppets to join them for the MTV Nirvana Unplugged special. Kurt Cobain honored them by performing three songs off this CD: Lake of Fire, Oh Me, and Plateau.

In this CD we get a glimpse of a burgeoning guitar genius: Curt Kirkwood. Check out Aurora Borealis an instrumental where Curt Kirkwood lays a foundation for future instrumental genius. The title, Aurora Borealis, is perfect for this diffuse, ethereal piece. Curt Kirkwood is truly one of the few Guitar Gods of the 80's and 90's.

In conclusion this CD started a Meat Puppet tradition of producing cutting edge music that has been maintained for twenty years. To say the Meat Puppets are cutting edge is analogous to saying Michael Jordan is a pretty good basketball player. Look up cutting edge in the dictionary and there will be a picture of Curt Kirkwood. The only group that rivals them for cutting edge is the legendary Fuzz Greeves Band. If you are looking for main stream music, run fast from this CD and check out Brittany Spears (putting a finger down my throat: insert a loud gagging sound here), but if you have the huevos to open your mind to new music experiences check out this CD and other Meat Puppets releases. I have to leave now to go formulate infinity. Ciao

5.0 out of 5 stars This album will make you feel Disgustingly happy., August 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Meat Puppets II (Audio CD)
I bought this album at Borders Book, for a wonderfully cheep price, and it is VERY GOOD. ANd plus it gets better everytime you listen to it, while other albums get drier and drier. AND you can read while you listening to it. The album contains deep lyrics that you can barely find anywhere, with the exceptions of bands such as They Might Be giants and Nirvana and such. If you a big fan of Nirvana's Unplugged album, or you are sick of Boring lyrics about the same things like love and blah blah blah, PURCHASE THIS ALBUM. IT's an essential on your Itinerary as you guide yourself throught the land of the Meat Puppets.

4.0 out of 5 stars PLEASE RESTOCK, February 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Meat Puppets II (Audio CD)
I've been looking for this CD for years.I owned the tape when I was 14 or 15,and wished I never threw it away.Songs like Lake of Fire[which Nirvana covered] and Plateau are classic retarded folky punk anthems, and others like Split myself in two and New Gods are liken to early Replacements ,Descendants/All and maybe a pintch of Ween. In my opion, Nirvana got alot of there style from the Meat Puppets. I hope this CD is available the next time I come back.
