veg cooking for those who don't like to cook!,
By AineMama (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Meatless Meals for Working People: Quick and Easy Vegetarian Recipes (Paperback)
I LOVE this cookbook--it's the only one I have which is truly easy and brainless. (i.e, "throw these six things into the pot, and cook at med. heat for 20 min.") I became veg as a pre-teen, with a mother who hated to cook, so I never learned how to cook ANYTHING! Now, trying to go vegan, I need to know how to make healthy food for my husband, toddler and baby too! This book is awesome for people like me who don't know how to cook and don't have a lot of time to learn. If, however, you know how to cook/like to cook, you'd probably be better off with something more fancy. This IS, however, a GREAT starting-out, "idea book".

Nice and Easy,

I think that this book (reviewing 1991 version) is well worththe money. It's not costly yet it provides a nice overview of the vegetarian lifestyle and the recipes are varied and easy to make. I thought that the variety of dishes was excellent. I would have liked to see a low-fat section of recipes but most of the recipes are easy to make and taste good. I think that the menu selection is quite thorough and there are lots of good ideas for breakfast and also for entertaining.

The worst cookbook I've used,
By Jen "cook this" (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews

I've been a vegetarian for 10 years, and I think this cookbook is just awful. Example: Zucchini Bake ingredients are zucchini, vegan cheese, tomato sauce. Personally, I like food with flavor.
Also, the entire first half of the book is a list of restaurants and which of their ingredients are veggie. I felt robbed when I bought this used. Don't waste your money on this book.

I just received this book yesterday and could not put it down. It contains great basic information, yummy recipes, and a terrific section on ingredients used by fast food and chain restaurants (restaurants are individually discussed). I know what all my friends are getting for Xmas this year!!!

I am new to the "meatless" world and this book contains delicious, as well as effortless meals. This book needs to be on the shelf of every vegetarian! I love it

My family and I have been trying to go vegetarian. Sometimes it is hard in a world filled with fast food, but this book really helped. It gave us some great ideas for meals that were all fairly simple. When we have no dinner ideas, we can turn to this book and easily find a solution!

One long advertisement and a waste of money,
By Yvo S. (NYC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Meatless Meals for Working People: Quick and Easy Vegetarian Recipes (Paperback)
I bought this book while trying to eat less meat and regretted it immediately. Most of the book isn't even a cookbook, and just talks about all the great chain restaurants and what you can eat there. Even a busy working person can throw together a simple meal that will be effortless, healthy and infinitely cheaper than eating at any of these chain restaurants (which on any given night can be busy and will take up more time and effort anyway!). I go to school and work full time and I still have time to make better crap than what this book recommends. It's a total scam, and talks about all the vegetarian/vegan items you can buy frozen at the supermarket too. Not cool. Not good.

Barely a cookbook,

After ordering this book for my newly vegetarian sister as a gift, I almost didn't want to give it to her! Its small and dinky, looking quite cheap. In addition, there are only about 60 pages of recipes in this almost 200 page book-- the rest of it is fluff, meal information, etc. I have not made any of the recipes, which, in all fairness, may be excellent. On the surface, however, it is quite unimpressive.
