Product Description

From the Developer

The MechWarrior 4 'Mech paks expand gameplay for the bestselling and award-winning MechWarrior 4: Vengeance, based on the popular game of mechanized combat from FASA Studios. Each pak gives players new 'Mechs, a new electronics package, a new weapon, and a multiplayer map. Cyberlore, the team behind the successful MechWarrior 4: Black Knight expansion, developed the paks in conjunction with the FASA MechWarrior 4 team.

The Clan 'Mech pak contains the following four 'Mechs:

  • Masakari: Easily identified by its squat torso, jutting head, and broad chest, this 'Mech has become notorious for its deadly accuracy (85 tons)
  • Kodiak: A large, fast-moving Assault 'Mech that carries impressive medium-range firepower (100 tons)
  • Arctic Wolf: Loaded with SRMs, this BattleMech can rapidly close with an enemy and shower it with more than 40 missiles (40 tons)
  • Cauldron-Born: Named for the unstoppable zombies of Irish myth, this 'Mech can take immense damage and remain operational (65 tons)

3.0 out of 5 stars A gimmick, but so what..., November 29, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Mech Warrior 4 Mech Paks: Clan Arsenal (CD-ROM)
Anyone buying this item should accept the fact that all of these new features could easily have been incorporated into MW4 Vengance or Black Knight. Microsoft was keeping up fan interest between the release Black Knight and Mercenaries. By definition, this Mech Pack and it's sister one for the Inner Sphere are a marketting ploy.

That said, die hard fans of the Mechwarrior series may want to buy this expansion for the new mech's and some new weapons. It's kind of fun to take the older mechs and slug it out with a Kodiak. The Mech Packs add a little variety, but no depth. The one exception is if you have the Pack's installed when you play Mercenaries. If you install the Packs, the new mechs will show up in the various Solaris arena's in Mercenaries, where they make challenging apponents.

Long time fans of the franchise or players who like to tinker with new mechs will have some fun with this. Casual players should save their money.

One of the things I did not like about MechWarrior4 was the lack of new Mechs. It was the latest MW game and I had hoped to see more variety, instead we got the standard Battletech selection of Mechs. Of the new ones that were there, only a couple really stood out.
This Mech Pack adds some of the better Clan Mechs from Battletech to the game. It was fun to go back to MW4 and the expansion, Black Knight, and play with these new Mechs. Each is highly detailed and looks better than the previous Mechs in the game. Each is a good Mech, there are only four but they are very well designed. One Mech, the Artic Wolf, has existed only in the Battletech fiction so it was really cool to see it fleshed out in game. The addition of new weapons and equipment also makes it interesting to go back to old favorite Mechs and arm them with new firepower.
The new maps are nice, but nothing really fantastic.

I have really enjoyed Battletech in all of its forms over the years, and I really liked seeing some good Mechs from the past brought up to date. Anyone who knows Battletech and liked Mechwarrior4 should enjoy this. While it might seem like too much to pay for so little, it is worth it to rule the battlefield in a Warhawk again:)

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware of Spyware, March 31, 2003

While I enjoyed the added mechs, this software and its counterpart innersphere contain the C-Dilla spyware. The Black Knight expansion pack also contains it. This is a copywrite protection program that installs on your machine and does not shut down after you exit the game. TurboTax also installs the program and the only way to remove it is to download and run the safecast uninstaller program from the intuit website. Including this program was a terrible thing for Microsoft to do, especially since it does not disclose the fact at any time.
