A gimmick, but so what...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Mech Warrior 4 Mech Paks: Clan Arsenal (CD-ROM)
Anyone buying this item should accept the fact that all of these new features could easily have been incorporated into MW4 Vengance or Black Knight. Microsoft was keeping up fan interest between the release Black Knight and Mercenaries. By definition, this Mech Pack and it's sister one for the Inner Sphere are a marketting ploy. That said, die hard fans of the Mechwarrior series may want to buy this expansion for the new mech's and some new weapons. It's kind of fun to take the older mechs and slug it out with a Kodiak. The Mech Packs add a little variety, but no depth. The one exception is if you have the Pack's installed when you play Mercenaries. If you install the Packs, the new mechs will show up in the various Solaris arena's in Mercenaries, where they make challenging apponents. Long time fans of the franchise or players who like to tinker with new mechs will have some fun with this. Casual players should save their money.

One of the things I did not like about MechWarrior4 was the lack of new Mechs. It was the latest MW game and I had hoped to see more variety, instead we got the standard Battletech selection of Mechs. Of the new ones that were there, only a couple really stood out. This Mech Pack adds some of the better Clan Mechs from Battletech to the game. It was fun to go back to MW4 and the expansion, Black Knight, and play with these new Mechs. Each is highly detailed and looks better than the previous Mechs in the game. Each is a good Mech, there are only four but they are very well designed. One Mech, the Artic Wolf, has existed only in the Battletech fiction so it was really cool to see it fleshed out in game. The addition of new weapons and equipment also makes it interesting to go back to old favorite Mechs and arm them with new firepower. The new maps are nice, but nothing really fantastic. I have really enjoyed Battletech in all of its forms over the years, and I really liked seeing some good Mechs from the past brought up to date. Anyone who knows Battletech and liked Mechwarrior4 should enjoy this. While it might seem like too much to pay for so little, it is worth it to rule the battlefield in a Warhawk again:)

While I enjoyed the added mechs, this software and its counterpart innersphere contain the C-Dilla spyware. The Black Knight expansion pack also contains it. This is a copywrite protection program that installs on your machine and does not shut down after you exit the game. TurboTax also installs the program and the only way to remove it is to download and run the safecast uninstaller program from the intuit website. Including this program was a terrible thing for Microsoft to do, especially since it does not disclose the fact at any time.

Clan Arsenal Kicks!,

this expansion pack makes a ton of improvements over the origional MW4. it gives you a 100 tonner (the Kodiak) that can actually run, not waddle, and not to mention it has jump jets and can hold an awesome amount of weapons. all the new mechs are amazing, especially the fact that with the Masakari you finally have a mech that can hold more than 2 PPCs at one time. and the new version of the MRM, the fact that it can home in on targets gives you a longer range weapon that you can fire and forget about. in all, this game makes the already fun MW4 even better.

This pak is cool for the new mech models but they are the models that should have stayed in the game. The Kodiak, Cauldron-Born, and Maskari were seen in the MechWarrior 2 Series but they was left ouf of 3 and 4 until now. For this price, there should have been more in it. 10 new mechs would be better and new levels and/or a campaign. MW4: Vengance is REQUIRED, not just any MW4 game right now. The Kodiak and Masakri are stripped of the some of the weapons that make them cool. The Masakri is missing 2 PPC's and the places to mount them and the Kodiak only has 4 medium lasers instead of 8 (4 in each arm). Other than that, try to get it discounted or second hand, and when the next MechWarrior game comes around, demand more out of the game.

I own this game and think for the money it is fun, educational, and helps get you thinking. Instead of those video games were it is all violence and no thinking this game is still violence(a little) and you have to strategize and all of that. The other good thing is theres other games like Black knight, Mercanairies, and vengence witch are all expansions and with every new game comes new mechs, new levels, new missions and so on and so on. Your kids will love this game and you parents just might too. I know my parents did :-)

This pak, which includes 4 new mechs (one of which is one of my favorites), a new arena, upgraded Medium Range Missles, and Enhanced optic tech. The mechs are very good, with a 100 ton Jump Capable mech, the Kodiak. A small 40 ton mech that packs a punch of lots of missles, the Arctic Wolf. A 65 ton mech that can take a hell of a lot of damage, the Cauldron-Born. And, my personal favorite, the Masakari, an 85 ton assualt mech with massive firepower and suprising speed. The arena is okay, but can be diorienting. The SMRMs sure add firepower, and the Enhanced Optics make sniping much better. If you own Vengance, and you like it, I highly recommend that you go out and get this pak, and probably the Inner Sphere one too (I haven't played it yet).

This game is exactly what the title is. And with Mercs out it is as useless as ever. The only reason to buy this and the inner sphere version is for the Mechs. If your a hardcore gamer go ahead and get it. If your undecided its not worth the trouble.
