Most Helpful Customer Reviews

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful By Peter Griffin on December 29, 2004
Format: Hardcover
This book has its ups and downs, as you might expect from a first edition. Since most people probably won't read this entire review, I'll state the Cons first because they are the least obvious. This book has a lot of mistakes. Not just in grammar, but in its example problems as well. I think it's great when I can open a text book and learn the material from the example problems. However, when the solutions to these problems are incorrect, they are not helpful at all. I found this very frustrating (along with the rest of my class), but luckily my professor cleared up most of the confusion. They also do not use units, so it can be confusing trying to follow the example.

The only good thing I remember about this book is that it covers a lot of topics. The first few chapters should be review, but the rest can be seen as a broad overview of everything from fasteners to welding.

I don't have any other books to compare this to, so I gave it 3 stars. In a field such as engineering, simple mistakes can lead to larger problems, and this book has a lot of mistakes.
