5.0 out of 5 stars Great Doom Metal album, and rather unique!, January 9, 2010
This review is from: Mechanism Masochism (Audio CD)
Gardens Of Gehenna are a German Metal band, who have been working at their unique brand of Doom/Death Metal since around the late 1990's or so, and Mechanism Masochism is both their latest album, and quite possibly their last as well, seeing as how they broke up a number of years after it's release. So what makes Gardens Of Gehenna so unique, you may be asking yourself? Well they take what is primarily a Doom/Death Metal base, and then add in elements of other types of music such as Gothic Metal and Industrial, and mix it all together in such a way that it doesn't sound overbearing, and all the pieces fit together without seeming forced. Gardens Of Gehenna may not be the first Doom Metal band to mix in elements of Gothic Metal or even Industrial, but it works a lot better here than in other bands. Part of this may be due to the fact that this is still largely a Doom/Death Metal album, and the other genre elements are just for added flavor, and never seem to clash with the rest of the music. Anyone who loves Doom/Death Metal, but find themselves craving something a little bit different, definitely owe it to themselves to give this band and album a try. You may be quite pleasantly surprised!
