5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Metal, August 10, 2001
By
This review is from: Mechanized Warfare (Audio CD)
This is classic metal music. The guys from Panzer have put together a great follow up to the last album, Thane to the Throne. The guitar work and vocals are great and the music is in classic metal fashion.

If you like metal pick up this album and Thane to Throne and you won't be disapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mechanized Perfection, October 1, 2002

This review is from: Mechanized Warfare (Audio CD)
Jag Panzer strikes back. After the Macbeth's based album "Thane To The Throne", the American metal group returns to a more loose songwriting, free from linked concepts. "Mechanized Warfare" does a superb job: it sounds like traditional metal, and yet can bring us some unseen creativity and inovation.
Right from the opener "Take To The Sky" you should consider this album a "must have". Vocalist Harry Conklin leaves tons of other singers in the shame. His vocal range definetely takes to the sky and perhaps even surpasses it. His style and competence must be comproved by metal fans and even general music listeners, because he is a monster in the art of singing.
"Frozen In Fear" is a song with midtempo and fast moments, which are very well balanced. Again Conklin reigns supreme with his voice, allowing the band to
play with joy. "Unworthy" is just... Wow. it can be understood as a "Sign Of The Cross" look like song, but I am not saying it is a clone, actually this song sounds very original and interesting.
"The Silent" is everything but silent, the vocals are powerful like never before and the chorus is unbelievably inovative.
I don't feel obliged to comment the rest of this album for I will not have enough qualities to insert in "Mechanized Warfare".
You simply must buy it, listen to it, and enjoy it!

4.0 out of 5 stars 2nd Coming of Iron Maiden!! - 100% Pure Metal, August 25, 2002
By
This review is from: Mechanized Warfare (Audio CD)
This is my first Jag Panzer album. After hearing one of their songs, i had to get my hands on this album.

One complaint by some in the metal community was that their sound was too derititive of Iron Maiden and other power metal bands. I will disagree with that. Sure you can hear the Maiden influence in these guys, but just about everyone has been touched by Maiden!

Very solid and complete album, my favorite track in this album is "Scarlett Letter". Other notables include: "Take To The Sky" & "Frozen In Fear". They had a gig not too long ago opening up for Iced Earth & In Flames. In my honest opinion i think these guys blow those bands away!

Very wicked heavy catchy riffs and insanse vocals!!

If you're a fan of Maiden, Priest, Helloween, HammerFall, Gamma Ray, Stratovarius, Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, & Primal Fear, then check this album out!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark and Pounding, January 28, 2002

This review is from: Mechanized Warfare (Audio CD)
It's official - the metal scene needs more Jag Panzer in spades. Mechanized Warfare is one of the heaviest albums out right now - the melodies are dark and crunching. The vocals are dominant and melodic. The songs combine power chord verses with ambient chorus lines. And most importantly, the drumming is progressive - Jag Panzer have not fallen victim to being classified as a power metal band through repetitive double bass drumming (which is the downfall of so many power metal bands like Stratovarius and Sonata Arctica).
Agreed in that it takes a few listens to really appreciate what they've composed, but the CD is so enticing that you know you'll want to listen to the whole thing again after the first track ('Take to the Sky' is like a space-age Aces High).
My only gripe is that some tracks are too long - and the duration is filled with the chorus being sung over and over and over. If Jag Panzer can realize that a track doesn't have to exceed 6 minutes with repetitive chorus lines, then there is nothing stopping them from suprassing their peers. Iced Earth...yawn. Primal Fear...hype. Hammerfall...just go away. Jag Panzer are in the top tier bracket, along with Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray, and Symphony X - and they can still get better. The potential is astounding.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great metal CD, August 25, 2001

Jag Panzer are one of America's best metal bands today. They are true metal, sounding a bit like a mix of trash and power metal (the vocals especially would make you think it's power metal). The lead guitar work on this album is great and "The Tyrant's" vocals are great. If you like metal, buy this CD! The best songs are Take To The Sky, Frozen In Fear, and The Scarlet Letter.

4.0 out of 5 stars The most underrated band in metal..., January 20, 2002

actually 4.5 stars...

This will require a few spins. "Take to the sky" and "frozen in fear" are absolutely great, but unfortunately, on first spin, this has the tendency to leave the rest of the album flat... that is until you listen to it again.

You really have to listen. Between the offbeat sound there is good melody. There are choruses that are subtley grand. ( Don't ask me to explain that one )

This album grows on you and after three listens you realize how good these guys are. They are by far the most underrated band in metal today.

5.0 out of 5 stars KILLER new release from JP!, August 20, 2001
This review is from: Mechanized Warfare (Audio CD)
I have all of Jag Panzer's albums, and think they're all great, so naturally I was excited about this one. All I can say is, THIS ROCKS!! I think they've actually outdone themselves here. I thought "Thane to the Throne" was great, but with time I may like this one even more. Harry Conklin's vocals are top of the line, and the guitars crunch hard. This is one of the best new albums I've bought recently, right behind the new Iced Earth (it's friggin killer, if you don't have it!). If you're a JP fan, this is a must have. Check out "Unworthy" and "Frozen in Fear", but every song is great. Hopefully Amazon will get the cover image on here, cuz it's awesome. These Colorado rockers can do no wrong. METAL LIVES, BABY!

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars. JP rules, January 12, 2005
This review is from: Mechanized Warfare (Audio CD)
This album isn't quite as consistent or unified as 'Thane to the Throne' was, but it's still damn solid, and probably a bit more varied. It's the same basic formula- classic metal but a bit slower, quite a bit heavier and even more grandiose and epic. It's a good formula, and they can ride it for quite a bit longer if they keep putting out work of this quality.

JP clearly know what they're doing. Conklin is the best classic metal vocalist around, and Briody and Broderick are as fine a guitar duo as any, with a crushing intensity that many of their influences, but while retaining the penchant for melody that they had. And Broderick is the best shredding lead guitarist outside of prog-metal, bar none, though it would be nice if he slowed down a bit more often. The rhythm section is a bit less stereotypical, not using the straight 1-2 patterns as much as most metal rhythm sections do.

It opens with 'Take to the Sky', which is quite possibly the most metal song ever written. As far as soaring, epic choruses go, 'Take to the Sky', has probably got the best one I've ever heard.('Flight of Icarus', might beat it. Might.) Yet, it still has some great, intricate rhythm guitar work under the verses, and, the solo rules, as usual. 'Frozen in Fear' is a faster, Maiden-ish piece with some great lead licks, and what may be the best all around performance I've heard from Broderick. Very catchy, too. 'Unworthy' is a longer, more atmospheric piece, with a rather affecting mood, and some nice choral backing vox. 'The Scarlet Letter' is the second best track on the album, behind the opener. The vox are brilliant, wide-ranging, and the song has got a great unrelenting intensity, coming from the constant, alt-picked riff. It's got a great harmony lead and the solo is awesome.(But aren't they all? This one is particularly awesome, though) 'Cold is the Blade' is another epic, melodic track. Slower and more low-key than 'Take to the Sky' but it has the same basic feeling. Another great, immediately memorable song. 'All Things Renewed' is the longest track here, with some very good, extended soft sections, and some pretty, softer vox from Conklin. Another epic track, for sure, but in a different way than from what preceded it. Everything else on here is at least pretty good, though definitely not on the level of the aforementioned tracks. Still, nothing that needs to be skipped over.

Yes, this album rocks. Get it now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something To Rattle Your Eardrums! **** 4 STAR RATING., February 13, 2003

And you most defintely will have your eardrums rattled; by the second song, Jag Panzer will have you raising your volume knob higher and higher, as each song goes on to the next. Mechanized Warfare, is a definite power metal release, in the tradition of Tad Morose's, Matters of The Dark. I would compare this release to that one, also the vocals are a bit like Urban Breed's. Not copycats at all, Jag Panzer put their stamp on their own breed of power metal, without a doubt. I loved every song on this one. Scarlet Letter, was my favorite pick. The only reason this didn't get a 5 star masterpiece rating was, because of the obvious fact, that this band doesn't have the complexity of a Symphony X, or more in their realm of power metal, an Iced Earth. Short and straight to the point: if you like any of these bands-Tad Morose, Iron Maiden, old Judas Priest, Nevermore, or Queensryche, definitely get your hands on this one! **** 4 STAR POWER METAL RATING FROM SCRAGGY'S TOMB. Cheers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Old School Power Metal, October 2, 2009
By
This review is from: Mechanized Warfare (Audio CD)
This is great! I love this album. "Cold Is The Blade" is my favorite track. Fans of Bruce Dickenson and Tim "Ripper" Owens will feel right at home with long time frontman Harry Conklin. Furthermore, Chris Broderick lays down some amazing guitar licks.
If you like this then pick up "Thane to The Throne" next. Macbeth set to metal! Awesome.
